How do you decide how many players-per-tier when making your own tiers?

Having trouble with the large pool of tier 2 RBs.
Also anything past the 4th round.

Is there a general rule of them?
Maybe where ADP falls off the most from 1 player to the next, but the trend would need to be considered too..

I don't really have a set number of players per tier. Players in the same tier are just the ones who I think are valued close to evenly.

However...

If you are having trouble differentiating between players then doing this is a good place to start.

Are tiers necessary? I mean if you know you prefer Forte over Lacy why do you have to go through the work of organizing into separate groups?

Maybe I'm old fashioned, I print out a list of the players and that's about all I use. Drafts are so fluid that I feel like the extra work of mocks and tiers are a waste of time.

I hear ya. I used to buy a fantasy magazine to do a lil research. But I'm like you. I just print out a top 100 list, and a top 25 at each position and go from there. No set strategy or anything. I target players, not positions.

Tiers are used because you can guage where the talent is drying up during the draft. So basically if you need a RB and a WR, and there are plenty of tier 2 RBs available, but only 1 WR left in teir 2, you will know to take the WR this round and the RB next round.

yeah, draft the most expensive team you can

quote:

Player Auction
Jamaal Charles $57
LeSean McCoy $57
Adrian Peterson $55
Eddie Lacy $55
Matt Forte $55
Calvin Johnson $54
Jimmy Graham $53
Montee Ball $52
Marshawn Lynch $52
Demaryius Thomas $50
Arian Foster $47
Dez Bryant $45
A.J. Green $45
Brandon Marshall $40
Peyton Manning $40
DeMarco Murray $38
Le'Veon Bell $38
Drew Brees $38
Julio Jones $38
Giovani Bernard $38
Alshon Jeffery $36
Aaron Rodgers $36
Jordy Nelson $36
Alfred Morris $36
Zac Stacy $36

of course have it customized for your league and preferences

act like you are in an auction draft with no bidding...but you "win" if you tally the $$$ after and your team would have cost more to buy than the other teams.

closer to draft, yeah
values change so kinda pointless to put much into creating tiers

like Montee Ball is higher now and Dmart lower....but if you grab an updated auction sheet, it's pretty easy to determine value at your pick.

keeps you from reaching too

well you don't want only one source making your decisions for you. So that's why I do the draftboard thing I posted in the other thread.

example:
ADP draftboard says to draft Le'veon Bell
Auction Money says to draft Julio Jones

based that I grabbed Dez in the first, I will go with Bell for balance(my decision), and I like more sleeper WRs late than sleeper RBs(again my decision)

checks and balances, two different valuation methods, that in the end just helps you focus
