SIAP -- Posted on the political board but I know many of you never go there.

BRISTOL, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) _ Bristol police have charged a mother with a misdemeanor summons of leaving a child unsupervised in a motor vehicle.

Police say Tuesday they found an 11-year-old girl in a vehicle at 60 Middle St. She was very responsive and the interior of the car was not excessively hot, though the outside temperature was 85 degrees.

The girl told police that she had asked her mother to stay in the car while she went inside. Her mother, Christina Williams, 30, corroborated the story.

Williams is charged in the case.

I did this all the time as a kid. I hated going into stores to shop with my mom.

This is dumb

Stupid. We baby kids way too long now. I leave my kids in the car while I run in a store, and they are older. I do always leave the car and a/c running, though. I can't imagine leaving anyone in the car without a/c. But, it's silly to charge parents when the kids are old enough to roll the windows down or get out. Plus, 85 degrees? Seriously?

This is getting ridiculous. I guess parents need to start keeping Tweens in a papoose now.

I guess a child means any person under the age of 18, so I find had to guess the same law would apply to a 17-year-old who wants to stay in the car, right?

Nothing wrong with letting a kid that age stay in a car.

It's so ridiculous to me. My brother and I stayed home alone after school from the ages of 8 and 11. Nobody freaked out about it. We knew the rules and didn't burn anything down or anything crazy. I don't get what changed so that kids nowadays have to be supervised until they're 16.

If the kid is capable of unlocking the door and getting out on his/her own, how can there really be an issue??? This is stupid.

She must not have left the car running. Only way this even remotely makes sense.

I don't know. But what if they have a driver's license?

No wonder kids are giant wusses now. They can never be uncomfortable or offended or hurt or sad or not as good as another.

So you support the charge if the car was not running?

Was the kid a paraplegic? If not, then there shouldn't be any problem with her leaving the kid in the car.
