Went to the post office here in St martinville to send a check to my lawn service. It goes to a PO box that is 15 feet from the cashier. I was laughing with her about buying a stamp so she could turn around and put it in his box and she told me it would actually be shipped to Lafayette, then Baton Rouge and then back to St martinville...... WTF?

The only thing more stupid than government workers, are the people who vote to give them more money.

Why don't you just use a carrier pigeon to deliver payment to your lawn guy?

Drop it in the inbox with no stamp and a return address of the post office. It's free and the problem is solved.

Heard a story on the news that Target has dropped their idea of running a mini-post office. They expected opposition from the Postal Workers Union but then they got hit with a boycott from the Teacher's Union.

What do teachers have to do with post offices? Solidarity!

I don't believe routing is the issue with the post office. UPS sends everything to Memphis and they do it efficiently.

Yep. If I FedEx something from Birmingham to Montgomery, it flies to Memphis first.

The NSA doesn't have an office at every Post Office.

I have an IRS one:

We had to file an amended return because we left something off of the one in April. We sent the extra that was shorted.

My wife and I both got a letter the same day (we file jointly, obviously) saying that we over paid by $11.28 and that we would be getting a check. The check came 2 days later. Another letter came several days after we got the check informing us that we should have gotten a check for $11.28. ????????

That is great. This is the same thing that all government agencies do when they touch something, no matter what it is.

It's because the post office workers are too damn lazy to go out and do anything on time. They probably went to the wrong address and were late getting there.

The USPS loses money because it is forced to subsidize several legislated programs, not because of how it actually handles mail, which is quite efficient.

I have been inside of a post office probably 3-5 times in my 32 years of life.

I cannot figure out for the life of my why people need to use a post office with online payments, online shopping and such.

I say let it die and everyone can ship FedEx, UPS & etc.

instead of letting it die, why not free it from burdensome requirements?

Then the people who want to use it will and those who don't won't. The end.

Yeah, as I understand it, congress funds it something like 70 years in advance. They should probably change ridiculous things like that as a start.

The problem with freeing it is getting rid of some of the benefits it gives its employees. That will never happen. Many of its requirements are a pipe dream to get it to give up.
