Will be a bit till Jimmy is updated.

over the cap calculator

any additional moves before the season? I know we will leave some room in case we have to add

ETA: I expect a Brees restructure after this season based on those numbers

Cut yourself some slack. Its only been almost 2 hours. Give them some time to respond.

Apparently the details are (mostly)out and this year he costs $4m on the cap and $11m next year.

That puts us about $4.5m under this year and about $13m over next year. About half of that $4.5m will be rolled over unless there's some emergency signings and/or an extension for someone(less about a mil for the 52nd and 53rd players and about $800k for the PS players).

So we're looking at being about $11-12m over next year. $7.8m of that can be eliminated by taking Byrd and Lofton's roster bonuses and converting them into signing bonuses($4.8m on Byrd and $3m on Lofton). Then factor in a likely restructuring for Brees and we will easily be under the cap before we even look at cuts.

It's also possible Brees doesn't get touched and 1 or 2 cuts will get us under.

Unless Victor Butler blows up or Galette hits 12 sacks we have no major FAs. We will have the majority of our roster intact.

So all in all we are looking pretty good heading into next year. People will freak because they will hear we are $13m over but plans are already in place to easily eliminate that.

You may not see a big FA signing next year though unless Brees is restructured or someone big gets cut.

No problem. It's always nice to give good news to fellow fans.

This is the full list of FAs next year:

UFAs
Patrick Robinson
Mark Ingram
Victor Butler
Shayne Graham
Parys Haralson
Luke McCown
Robert Meachem
Keyunta Dawson
Ramon Humber
Brandon Deaderick
Joe Morgan

RFAs
Bryce Harris
Trevin Wade
Travaris Cadet
Tyrunn Walker

ERFAs
Senio Kelemete
Adrian Davis
Marcel Jones

Junior is not listed because his FA is dependent. If he hits 12 sacks he becomes a RFA.

Thanks.

A lot of it can be found in the link in the first post, just takes a while to get used to "reading" the numbers and then understanding how the numbers can be manipulated.

Like the Lofton thing, he could also be cut and save $4m instead of staying and having his roster bonus restructured. It's a risk reward though. You save more next year and in the future, but you have to feel you have someone capable of taking his place.

Safe to say that something is likely going to be done with Lofton next year though.

Robinson could return if he has a good year and stays healthy.

I don't think there's a scenario where we keep Ingram. I think if he doesn't do substantially better he can argue that he doesn't get enough reps. If he does well he will command more money than he's worth to our offense.

Shayne Graham has choked in big games for a lot of teams, lets hope he doesn't choke for us in a big game this year. He's one of the biggest liabilities on our roster in my opinion.

Meachem is the Shanle of our offense. Whether he returns next year (or makes the cut this year) depends on Toon and Cooks.

Joe Morgan is his own worst enemy. If he proves he can keep out of trouble and be a persistent deep threat he'll be explosive. This is his last year with us to show it though I think. (Adrian Arrington watch )

Parys Haralson, we'll see. He was getting better and better every week until his injury. Hopefully he continues to climb.

Rest of the guys have the potential but they'll have to battle it out in camp.

That may be, but I really don't blame him for the Seattle playoffs game.

I can definitely see him being cut next year for 4 million in savings. That's a good bit of money for an aging vet. Not sure how many years he really has left and we've been working at getting a lot of young LBs. Not sure who at this point would take over MLB, though.

True, I was thinking he was the kicker for that Baltimore - NE game but that was Cundiff, so nevermind?

I'll chime in for appreciation of bonethugs (and others) capology work. I follow it and know most of it. It's now a necessary aspect of NFL life but one that I don't enjoy much. I much prefer getting it from reliable researchers here than spending my time on salary cap sites.

Thanks blues.

Just wanted to update some stuff about Graham's contract. Loomis added a $5m roster bonus in year 2 that gives us flexibility with the roster.

In addition to being able to convert Lofton and/or Byrd's roster bonus we can also convert Graham's.That would save us $3.3m in cap. The ramifications are that he becomes harder to cut in the 3rd year, but he's still unlikely to see the 4th year as is.

If all 3 have their bonuses converted it would save $11.1m, putting us right around the cap. Assuming we carry over $2m of this year's cap we would actually be a little under. Add in a likely Brees restructure and we could be $10 or more under.

Or we could choose to just restructure Brees and likely be right around the cap before other moves.

The important thing is Loomis built in options for us. It's possible we could keep Galette even if he hits 12+ sacks. And that's another thing I forgot about. If Galette does hit 12+ sacks we get $2.9m in cap space back which will definitely help. So even if we lose we win.
