Will Andy Serkis ever win an Oscar if he continues to play CG characters?

I think he should because he's an incredible actor.

However, would you give the Oscar to him or the actual CG character?

Remember when there was Oscar buzz for Miss Piggy in 1980?

Good times, good times.

I think he'll get a lifetime achievement award from the Academy eventually.

The discussion from this weekend: LINK

We decided that they should give him a thumb drive containing a CGI Oscar.

As tough as I am on him in these threads, I wouldn't have any problems with that based on his work to date - and you know there are going to be 30 more PotA movies, as well as more opportunities for him in upcoming copies of Avatar and other "post-human" films, so his future is still bright.

It has certainly been influential in the merging/blurring the lines between traditional filmmaking and traditional animation.

A motion capture Oscar would be more appropriate.

With the new technology, the facial expressions and mannerisms are all him. I think he should be recognized in mainstream for his work. I think he is awesome and some of his characters may not have been possible without him. Hell, Smegal was all him.

I would disagree with him getting an Oscar. It's a real small niche he excels in just like voice actors.

I wouldn't have the best long snapper of all time in the HoF either.

Yes, but the long snapper barely plays football.

Serkis is still acting. Check his work as Ceasar in Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

People have gotten acting Oscars for very little screen time. He deserves an acting Oscar. He's acting. That's the category.

He doesn't deserve a Best Actor Oscar but he will deserve some kind of lifetime achievement Oscar eventually.
