The most competitive division in baseball is once again tight as hell heading into the break. Lots of injuries affecting the Reds and Cardinals. Milwaukee is struggling heading into the break, and the Pirates are just kinda hanging around.

I think the Cardinals are still the favorites, but the loss of Molina could prove to be costly. The Reds will be without Votto or Phillips for awhile as well, so it will be up to players like Ramon Santiago (!) and Brayan Pena (!!!) to pick up the slack. I feel like the Pirates have the best manager out of the four contenders and will continue to be a factor. I expect the Brewers to fade a bit in the second half, but they certainly aren't the team that most of the people on this board thought they would be. Lots of people had them finishing behind the Cubs, which I couldn't even comprehend.

Predictions:
1. St. Louis
2. Cincinnati 4 GB
3. Pittsburgh 5 GB
4. Milwaukee 9 GB

If the cards could just hit somewhat consistently, they have the pitching to run away.

The Reds need to get a big right handed bat in left field ASAP.

More importantly, they need Votto to come back healthy and driving the ball like he usually does. I don't have a problem with a Heisey/Ludwick/Schumaker three headed monster as long as Votto is hitting. The starting pitching is so damn good that just the slightest bit of consistency on offense will carry them most of the time.

Think they find a LF bat in offseason or try Winker?

Yeah, Hamilton over Choo in CF has gone WAY better than I ever thought it would.

Frazier is so damn strong.

And yeah, Mesoraco is killing it. Those three obviously need to maintain production in the second half. Wouldn't hurt if Bruce got hot for about two months either.

I'm not sure Winker will be ready. He's only 20 and hasn't gotten to AAA yet. Guess it depends on if he stays in Pensacola for the second half or gets moved up to Louisville. He hasn't been hitting well in AA.

At this point just being in the race is enough for me. Can we at least make it interesting??

Im thinking they could move a starter for a bat to make room for Stephenson.

Well, Cueto, Latos, and Leake are all due for contracts at the end of next season, so that makes sense.

If only there was another poorly performing divisional team for the upper trio to beat up on. You miss us. Admit it.

Yeah the Reds pen has sucked for the most part as well, outside of Brox and Chapman. Injuries have played a major role in that though.

Brewers were just bored with their lead and wanted to make it interesting for the second half.

Were lucky to be where were at considering the slow start and injuries. IMO, we have the best starting rotation in the Central.

Votto batting .255 with 6 hrs? Really?

Bruce is streaky so I expect that he will get hot the 2nd half.

If Billy can keep up with his on base %, watch out.

frick Hoover.
