My grandmother makes me deposit on my phone right when she gives it to me for this reason.

Yep. My grandparents are dead now, but the last time I held onto one of my grandmother's checks for over a month, I got bitched at until I cashed it. And if you say you "lost it" or never got it, you just get another one, followed by another phone call to make sure you got the second one and you're on your way to the bank.
