I'm getting the top button to my iPhone fixed this week due to a recall. I read that I am supposed to back up my phone to the cloud, then restore factory defaults when I bring it in.

Question- if I sync it to the cloud, and then when they return the fixed phone, all I have to do is plug it back in and the cloud will put everything back on my phone, including apps? I'm phone illiterate.

UPDATE
So I backed everything up this morning to my itunes. I got the new phone and just connected it to my computer. Itunes popped up and asked if I wanted to restore backup (from this morning's backup). I proceed with that. All of my contacts, texts, and music is now on my phone. However, it did not transfer a single app. Any idea what I need to do? I know the apps were backed up because when I ran that this morning, I saw it syncing 40 apps.

Got it fixed, thanks!

Theoretically, yes. I prefer to do a backup to iTunes via USB. If you do it this way, you might have to transfer purchases to iTunes prior to the backup. You can also verify the backup in preferences to make sure the backup was successful.

Are you going to erase the phone before you give it to them?

If so, you can either use iCloud to back it up or plug it into your computer and backup through iTunes. I'm either event, when you get the phone back you would restore form the back up you made once you set it up (just like a new phone).

Your iTunes account knows what you downloaded and/or purchased. At worst, you'll have to redownload the ones you want back on your phone, but you won't have to pay for them again. I stopped asking iTunes to manage/sync/backup my apps in any way whatsoever because it can't seem to handle the fact that I might want different apps on different devices under the same account. Auto sync is the devil. It's easy to redownload any apps straight from your phone nowadays. Just one finger touch per app.

i'm curious as to the process of getting your phone fixed

my wife's power button has that issue, and I know its covered under the recall, just wondering what you had to do to get it fixed/replaced??

did they just swap your phone out at the apple store?

did you have to register online?

Read about it a while back, and it said you have to either send it to a repair center or take it to an Apple store or other authorized service provider. Regardless, it takes a few days to get it back. They supposedly give you a loaner iPhone 5 if you take it to an Apple store.

Ok

Sounded like they just have you a new or refurb one and fixed yours to give to the next guy

My big concern was her being without a phone for a few days so that answers that

Just walk into the apple store (no appointment needed). They take you aside, do some diagnostics tests for about 20-30minutes, then give you a loaner phone. My phone should be finished in 5-6 business days. At which point all I need to do is walk back in and swap it out.

In iTunes, when you click on your loaner phone you should see options on what data you want to sync. Are you sure apps is checked?

It's been a while since I've used iTunes (iCloud just does a better, more consistent job) but my guess is that you just need to make sure you've checked "sync apps" and re-sync it.
