Republicans are posturing to give Obama nearly 4 billion dollars to deal with the illegal immigrant problem in exchange for promises of speedier deportations, but not one penny will go to stemming the tide of illegals coming into the country. Is anyone surprised at this development? I'll go first, very predictable and pathetic.

Republicans roll over

quote:

Republicans want the government to have the authority to treat Central American kids the same way as kids from Mexico, who can be removed quickly unless they convince Border Patrol that they have a fear of return that merits additional screening. "I think clearly we would probably want the language similar to what we have with Mexico," Boehner said. White House officials have said they support such changes and indicated last week that they would be offering them along with the emergency spending request. But immigration advocates objected strongly, saying children would be denied legal protections, and the White House has not yet made a formal proposal. Asked Thursday about the issue, Johnson said he supported changing the law to treat children from Central American nations the same as those from Mexico.

How many kids do they intend to send? Is this going to be like an everyday thing from now till they stop making new kids? Once the kids are here, do they then allow the parents? What is the ceiling for population growth allowable?

If they do this, I'm never voting republican again. I will go to my grave not ever voting democrat, but this is complete lunacy. 4B solves absolutely nothing.

For the amount of money they will get compared to the number deported, it will probably work out to about 1 million or so per kid. And then there the pesky issue of not using one penny to stop illegals coming in. What man continues to bail water out of a sinking boat without ever trying to plug the leak?

Boehner has to be the worst GOP speaker of the House in history.

I'm pretty much at this point. Democrat vs. Republican makes for good entertainment, but they're all on the same team up in Washington. The letter behind their name is practically meaningless.

This is from Thursday. There is nothing concrete offered. I really doubt Bohener's going to do this, not unless he wants full scale Civil War in the GOP.

I'm picking up that it's not just Republicans who are unhappy with this. There are many Dems-rank and file, who are angry about what's going on at the Border.

What in John Boehner's past makes you think he'll do anything else but roll over and then cry about it afterwards?!

I really don't know what you expect him to do with one 1/2 of 1/3 of the government.

That being said, I think the GOP should offer a stand alone bill, that repeals the law that give Central American illegals different treatment than Mexican illegals.

Some of Obama's harshest critics have been not only Dems, but Hispanic Dems from border states.

This might interest you.LINK

quote:

But O’Rourke added that he has been surprised by the anger he has heard toward the immigrants from many of his El Paso constituents, who “feel like we can’t take care of everyone, and these children and their families are gaming the system.”

quote:

When the president made a fundraising swing through Texas without going to the scene of the crisis, Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Tex.) complained on MSNBC: “He can’t even go 242 miles to the Texas border? Border community leaders want to see him down there on the border. And I think the optics and the substance of it is that he should show up at the border.”

I'm no big fan of Bohener, but the "Gang of Eight" bill passed in the Senate has never made it to the floor of the House. That should tell you something.

The House controls the funding to all agencies. What more power does one need than the power of the purse?

And get blamed on a government shutdown?

I think the GOP is right to stand back and let Obama expose himself for the terrible president he is.

The most important thing they can do is take the Senate. That will really throw a kink into his lifetime appointment power, which is where he's going to do the most damage.

If the GOP does look as if it's going to cave on immigration, then it'll be time to flood the switchboards. But look, if you've got Dems nervous, that should tell you something.

They're the same, people. George Bush had the white house for 8 years. If the elites wanted to stop illegal immigration, it would happen. They don't, so it doesn't matter which party you support.

He implied that they didn't have any power because they only control 1/3 of the gov. I insisted that they do because they control the spending. If the only reason to capitulate to hostage demands is to be liked, that's a pretty weak reason to roll over.

I do not believe they would ever get a bill sending those kids back through the Senate. Obama and the Democrats are basically saying amnesty or nothing.

I also do not believe they would get a bill like Obama wants through the House. Boehner or no Boehner.
