I have Wusthof and have been very happy, normally buy on clearance. What is your budget?

I was looking at Wusthov. Did you buy as a set or in singles?

just go to some upscale department store that has a good selection and have a look at what fits your budget...

fwiw, the only thing that I would look for is to be sure that you get some that are forged steel and not stamped, as the steel will be a much higher quality...

if you need to know how to tell the difference, let me know...

J.A. Henckels- German Stainless Steel. The knives with two men. The ones with one man are inexpensive.

Check on Sierra Trading Post, they normally have some listed there. Get the classics and not the gourmets. If you see something you like let me know I get an email every Sunday for an additianal 35% if the entire order.

You cannot go wrong with a dexter Russell or Chicago cutlery set.

I'm a bit of a fanboy so I would suggest Benchmade. But "cheap" is not the word I would use to describe it.

What I have. I find they dull quickly though. And they're supposed to be stainless, but I have small rust spots on a few of mine. I always hand wash them, never put em in the dishwasher. So, I dunno.

henkels or wusthof. It's a worthwhile investment.

Miyabi 600D or Warther Cutlery. Warther is an outstanding value and uses S30V steel for blades.

Pretty hard to do that.

Take your money and get the best chef's knife you can get. No one really needs a full set of knives if they have good knife skills.

I have sani safe set. I hit them real quick with the sharpening steel every now and then and they have held up for several years. Price is very reasonable......and they are made in the usa

I'm a big fan of Shun as well. I think they are a sister company to Kershaw.

Go to a restaurant supply store and buy whatever size/style you need in the white plastic handle variety. Think about it, restaurants use them all day every day. If you want fancy brand name, so be it. But if you want quality and value, go to a restaurant supply store.

I also buy all my pots, pans, and other kitchen items from there as well.

Anything damascus will hold an edge forever, but they tend to be pricey. I'm sure most people on this board are familiar with damascus, but these blades are reheated and folded over many times and this creates a stronger and sharper blade. A grade lower would be a very high carbon steel (440 stainless or higher). A quality knife will never have to be replaced. Get a chefs knife and a couple smaller blades and this will save you lots of money if they never have to be replaced
