Why shouldn't children be taught abstinence?

taught it, sure. but expecting teens to not have sex is ten times more idealistic than any position in politics. and trying to guilt them into repressing their very natural urges is only going to serve to develop social or psychological problems for them later in life.

Sounds like there was a political and religious undertone behind the class, which needs to stay out of schools.

Because it's unrealistic in this, and pretty much every society in history.

Teenagers are going to screw.

If you read even the first paragraph you would know the justification.

Meh, it was a 2 day class that was part of a larger class. I see no issue with it at all. Her "rights" as a non believer were violated. What about the rights of believers who might not want to sit through other types of sex ed, but still had to?

Don't have sex until you are ready for it, and if you are in HS you are not ready for it
if you have sex, use a condom
here is how you use a condom

Its not that fricking hard to figure out, what is the right's problem? Oh yeah, they don't want people to have sex.

Abstinence? No issue

JEEBUS based? No thanks.

That, I believe, was the thrust of the argument. She feels that the insertion of religious view gets it a bit slippery. No need to pound and pound the God part. Erecting a barrier to abstinence messages is counter-(re)productive. So, spread the news...but, leave Gawd out of a required course.

I'm out of puns

Probably shouldn't have forced them to go to this abstinence course, but a human rights violation?

This is in Canada, but people in 1st world countries sure have a skewed view of what constitutes a human rights violation.

I guess it is a good thing considering that if this is considered a human rights violation, it is a sign that our societies have come a LONG way.

I also consider it a bad thing because it dilutes the concept of human rights violation.

Fair enough.

I am a proponent of teaching abstinence (like BHP said, non-religious taught abstinence) because the risks are 0.00%

But I'm not naive enough to think that teenagers are going to listen.

What I'm not a fan of is tossing condoms at high-schoolers and telling them to go for it.

Didn't you know?

We aren't supposed to discuss anything that doesn't involve the area we immediate live in.

You tell them if you need a condom, you can get one no questions asked. We keep them here. feel free to grab one.

BUT DON'T HAVE SEX YOU TWIT. But if you do, please use a condom.

Its called harm reduction and its fabulously effective across a wide variety of areas. Prohibition of actions just doesn't work, if you can get people to minimize their risk......it benefits everyone.

<------- Shreveport

Anyone want to talk about the Cowboys or how much south LA sucks?

Outside of that, I've got nothing.
