Underground heat from a supervolcano combined with high summer temperatures have melted a section of asphalt road in Yellowstone National Park, forcing the closure of some areas.
The 3.3-mile-long Firehole Lake Drive was closed on Monday after the park's ever-changing thermal geology created a 'hot spot' which turned the road into 'oatmeal'.
As they examined possible fixes, park officials warned hikers to avoid the area as the danger of stepping through solid-looking soil into boiling-hot water was high.

Note to self: Re-schedule trip to Yellowstone for November.

Why don't we tap that resource to generate energy? If it will boil water, it can run a tubine.

Maybe bleeding the heat off will control it somewhat?

Damned global warming...

last three eruptions have been about every 600,000 years. we're overdue for the next one but relatively speaking we'll have destroyed the country ourselves before yella mama gets the chance

I guess the global warming freaks will be happy with a massive eruption. It will kill off several thousand people while killing off several thousand more with the agricultural disaster/lack of food an eruption would cause in the subsequent years after the blast. They'll also get the halt to global warming they so desperately seek when such a blast ends up dropping global Temps a few degrees. Of course, the adding the equivalent of a few dozen dust bowls from the mountain of ash the blast will dump on the plains and Midwest will starve people out in the meantime. At least we won't have any global warming for a while so that should make the alarmists happy.
