Being from Shreveport, I am a huge fan of Southern Maid Donuts. I was on my way to Austin one weekend and noticed a Southern Maid Donut Shop right off the interstate on the way down there and this naturally took me by surprise (not used to seeing Southern Maid outside the 318 area). I did a quick google search and found that there are a couple in the Dallas area. My question is, have any of you ever had the Southern Maid Donuts in Dallas, and if so, are they as good as the ones in Shreveport? It's a little bit of a drive from my apartment and I want to be cautious if they are not going to be as good as back home.

none will ever be as good as the Hearne Ave location

that being said, those near you are very likely better than fricking Shipley's

Those look pretty dam good, I must say. They're (were) hot I take it??

Now I want some fkng donuts. Tampa lacks a serious good donut shop, among other things. One thing I miss most about living in LA.

I actually got that picture off the internet, but 99% of the time when I get Southern Maid Donuts, they are hot. In fact, the Hearne Ave location prides themselves on that with a huge sign.

The corporate site claims that Elvis did his only endorsement ad for Hot Southern Maid Donuts back in the 50s

Went to town on some when I was back in the Ratchet last week, hadn't had them in a few years. Had no idea they existed outside of Shreveport.

I think the Hargrove family moved their corporate headquarters to Garland, TX and there have been some stores open in Texas. I'm not sure of the year that they transferred operations from Shreveport to Garland.

Southern Maid History

Homage to the Southern Maid Donut

I still get a kick out of seeing Miss Merry Mary "star of TV and stage" on the box.

Does anyone remember when the Hearne Ave. store had the mynah bird in the cage? Don't think the health inspectors would allow that in this day and age.

Agree! Some of my greatest memories as a kid was going to get these hot donuts with my papaw. I'll never forget it.
