Yay or nay?

Why would you put age restrictions on radar detectors...
Posted on 7/10/14 at 7:11 pm to jmcs68
The kid in me says yay but the dad in me says "slow down and pay attention to the road before you get yourself killed you dumbass"
I'm reading this as you are thinking about getting your son a radar detector for his birthday or something?

Not exactly sure what the question is, but sure, why not?
Posted on 7/10/14 at 7:11 pm to jmcs68
how about they just follow the speed limit instead?
Posted on 7/10/14 at 7:11 pm to jmcs68
if the kid buys it himself it shouldn't matter. they'll pay for their own speeding tickets anyway.

Why does an 18 year old need permission to have a radar detector?
Posted on 7/10/14 at 7:14 pm to jmcs68
Um...yes? What's the issue here?
Posted on 7/10/14 at 7:14 pm to jmcs68
Eh...I would say no but insurance isn't a joke depending on who you are with.

My thoughts exactly Hammy. I don't want to condone speeding but I do it myself.

Meh, I'd rather keep the $399 from a V1 and spend it on something else. That's just me though.

I go 5 under just in case.

Your kids are old enough to drive?

Then don't buy one. It's a pretty simple solution that you seem to be over complicating for some reason.

If he buys it himself fine. If you buy it as a gift you send the wrong message.

I won't be buying it but I feel like maybe I should say something. Like why not just slow your arse down? It's his money & he'll do what he wants but I feel weird about it. I guess in my eyes he still has his learners permit.

I bought myself one at 16, but I speed literally everywhere I drive. Also have a laser jammer

This too. If my dad had got me a V1, I think I would have turned into a bit more daring driver. It's sort of a "go ahead". Probably would have driven at +10-15 rather than +5-10mph.

For the record, I knew a lot of people who had one when I was 18. It's just a thing to put in the car to be cool. He'll learn the hard way if he speeds and gets tickets.
