And top four is imperative to keeping our current squad and being able to add a Top player or two

I think it's important that we get top 4 for financial reasons, but I'm not as concerned with it as I was at the beginning of the season for player recruitment and development. Every year in the BPL, at least one team from the group of Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Man United and Liverpool will miss out on CL. It is going to become more and more common and as long as you can avoid an extending absence for multiple years, I think it will be ok.

I am excited about how the team is rounding into form, and I am extremely optimistic about our young core group of players. I think their age buys us another year before it is a must we finish top 4 or they look to leave.

Who are you concerned that we would lose from our squad if we finished 5th or 6th?

According to the PhysioRoom at ThisisAnfield, Lucas has a groin strain and is looking at an estimated 3 week return timetable.

Gerrard, Sakho, Hendo, and Johnson are all looking to be back for Sunday in all likelihood. Coutinho, as I mentioned before, was just a holdout for rest.

I'm okay with Lucas being out, but having everyone else back is HUGE for Sunday... Now I'm officially pumped, and this sports weekend for me is going to be big , LSU hoops tomorrow, baseball all weekend and of course the big on Sunday AM (btw, frick the early English start time, it's at 6:00am here in South La and that sucks)

I think it would take two or three years of no cl to lose guys for that reason specifically. But I think a lot less games next year could mean a few guys wanting to get actual pt elsewhere and maybe Fenway wanting to make a small cut to the wage bill.

As for Lucas - we have not dominated the midfield in a single game since his injury. He is a big loss. Allen has not played well in the new formation and his best game was still mediocre at best. We need him back sooner rather than later.

I will add - with our depth and youth - I would much rather us blow our load on one or two upgrade players next year and not anymore projects. We need a guy that can step into the starting XI at cm immediately and possibly another at fwd. maybe another cb. I don't want 20m on a serb winger who has 5 good games out of the 35 he plays his first year but could be excellent in three years.

I can't think of one player in our squad, that would demand a transfer because we're out of the UCL... I couldn't watch the match yesterday, so that may explain my apathy on not advancing (or our performance), but I choose to look at the positive of focusing on top 4.. It is there to be had!

As for Lovren, it's knee jerk to blame him, but at least he stepped up... I know he's an easy target this season and for good reason...

Getting Lucas back for the stretch run will be vital for Liverpool to get top 4 (man, who'd have guessed we'd be saying that)

I am just ecstatic to have midfield players back in general.

And Stark, I may be one of few who thinks we desperately need a high quality forward. I like Sterling, but he is just not good up top. I think he benefited from Suarez an insane amount. He is not good at finding people when he is heading to the goal. He stops and gets schooled every single time it seems. Coutinho is a MUCH more polished player overall.

Just checking in finally after the game. I honestly busted out laughing when Lovren missed. It helps that I didn't really care if we won (and honestly I'm kind of happy we're out).

Poor guy. Can't blame him as he had a pretty decent game. So typical that he lost it for us though.

Yeah, I kinda laughed at that too... And honestly he's played okay as of late, but he can be frustrating sometimes

Lovren's year has been a nightmare for him but he's played decent lately (exempt the first half at Soton). I am not giving up on him and I like that the squad seems to really be behind him. Lucas is a huge loss, we should have known his quality when Rafa wanted him so badly, count me as one who was willing for a ship to Napoli for some cash.

Byrdman you move yet?

Not yet Jacky V... Ended my apartment lease and staying with a family member nearby for about 3 weeks until I move. Finally got a house lined up in Tehachapi, California. I get out there on the 26th, so I am getting excited to go see Gerrard play this summer.

I'm gonna be royally pissed if the MLS goes NHL on us and locks out. :-)

Lucas was doing a good job before Rodgers, but I think he was a little lost in Rodgers system early on. He's had times where he played well, but overall, seemed off (kind of like Allen now).

But he's great in the new system. And a huge loss. Allen does not do nearly as much as he did. I have no idea who the midfield pairing will be tomorrow, but I think we'll win or lose based upon how they do against Yaya et al.

I still think we need an upgrade over Lucas this summer, but seeing as that he is our only DM.. He is kinda important this season... But he is far from good enough if we want this team to go to the next level.. I don't mind keeping him on as a squad player/backup, but I hope we improve that position come summer...

He's terrific when other players babysit, but he's holding Henderson back. Hendo has to do half of his job for him because of his lack of mobility. Imagine a DM with the mobility of Matic back there. Henderson might actually start to contribute in the final third.

Having a hard time seeing us keep this energy level up.

Really stinks that we're not yet at full strenghth and the same guys have to keep playing the games over and over.
