Anyone read Pearce's new article? It basically highlights a lot of the doubts we have had about a transfer committee, and confirms BR is taking way too much heat for the signings. I'll post a recap that I found in the comments section on reddit.
take it for what is worth but this was at the end of last year
quote:
Brendan Rodgers has praised the work of Liverpool FC’s transfer committee as the manager reiterated he will have the final say on all signings this summer.
The Reds have yet to add to their squad since the window opened earlier this month but the manager has faith in the Anfield officials looking to close out deals.
Rodgers sits on the committee along with managing director Ian Ayre, head of recruitment Dave Fallows and head of performance and analysis Michael Edwards.
It was created by Fenway Sports Group following Rodgers’ arrival two years ago after the owners ditched plans to appoint a director of football.
from BR's mouth

Obviously, I am involved heavily in the identification of the player.
The principal idea when I first came in was that like any manager you will have the first call on a player and the last call.
That's the call on whether he's good enough to continue to look at and try to organise a deal and the last call to say yes or no.
There is a big part that goes on in between. In modern football you need to trust other people to do the work. That's something we do here and that's why we have had the success we've had.

What do you expect Rodgers to say to the media? That the committee is rubbish and penny pinching?
I'm not saying the Pearce info is 100% truth, but some fluff article heading into the transfer period when clearly the committee has messed up several transfers already in the two periods before that is not exactly perry mason boom evidence.

Id say they both share fault but BR a little more since he has the final say so. As far as Sanchez it def came down a few factors. He wanted to live in London rather than Liverpool. Wages, Arsenal were going to pay him absurd wages. Im sure Liverpool could have matched it but wanted to spend that money on more players. And the manager along with pretty much guaranteed UCL had to be a major factor.
I still don't get the Borini situation though. He was bought by BR before the transfer committee was formed after he impressed him at Swansea. He pays 14 mil for the guy and doesn't even play him.
Also the Allen thing another player from his Swansea days. He gets a lot of shite and he really isn't that bad but for his price and calling him the Welsh Xavi the expectations were through the roof. He kept getting abused sunday b/c he is playing out of position.
The whole situation is strange but none the less its been 200+ million spent.

Sterling cut that mop off his head

He's cut his hair to express his shame for wasted opportunities on Sunday.

Liverpool will undergo a complete review of their player recruitment strategy after struggling to implement a host of new signings this season.

frickING BOOOOOM!!
Ochoa will be a great signing if he plays HALF as well as he did this past summer.
ETA: Also, I find it weird that they are trying to revamp the committee procedures... And that this meeting only includes three of the 5 people on said committee. Kinda leads me to believe that report that was posted a page back.
I didn't see any of the financial people on the committee headed to that meeting... Aren't they the ones that screwed up on the Sanchez deal??

Slow your roll. It's just the express, so there's a long way to go til I'll believe it

Duly noted... However, when a good name like Ochoa's is involved, the excitement will still creep.

He's been linked with us before. I'll believe it when I see him leaning on something.

Well, from a positive viewpoint, him being linked to Liverpool in the past is positive reinforcement that he could be more likely to sign this go 'round.

It is good to has some positivity in this thread. I try, but it's just not coming from me. What's really cool about Ochoa is that we could have had him on a free last summer. Instead we'll end up paying £3-4m.

Better than sticking with good ol' Simon if you ask me...

Anything is better than sticking with Simon. Except Brad Jones.
How the frick did we get here? We used have Pepe Reina. frick.

I don't think we are as far off from being a top 4 contender as people are putting on. Granted, I doubt that we contend THIS year, but we are an injury return and maybe two signings away from having success.
There is already talk of one of the two signings, with rumors flying of the other potential spot. Sturridge is clearly the missing piece. Until lately, I was confused by the way Rogers was shifting the lineup around up front... It seems like he has just been trying every possible idea he can to squeeze out wins, and nothing has worked. The reason? In my opinion, it HAS to be that he knows that we had no legitimate single striker available, so he played more defensive lineups.
Heads up, we were never going to outscore people... Unfortunately, the defense has been sub par too. No true DM to protect them. Our ENTIRE team has been playing out of position and it shows.
I think Rogers knows that not only do we need a healthy Studge, but there are a few moves that HAVE to be made in order for us to retain the contender status that we had last year.
The question, to me at least, is this: Will the financial members of the committee try to short change prospects to line their own pockets, or will they spend what they need to now to reap the benefits of an intelligent and profitable investment?

ESPN reporting the Ochoa signing as well.
ETA: well at least that it is close. Can't say a done deal yet

Am I the only one not all that impressed with Ochoa?
Sure, likely a slight step up from Migs. But its not like he's a top keeper or a potential top keeper. Its a short term solution that likely barely improves the team.

Seeing that y'all have agreed to sign Ochoa for 3 million pounds in January.
And how much to the Mexican tv company that owns his rights?
