How do you launch your yak from a concrete boat launch when fishing alone? I fished PAC a few weekends ago and wound up dragging my kayak across the concrete a good biit.

Pick it up like a man and put that sucker in the water.

Just kidding, kinda. If I have to actually use the boat launch, I carry it to the water's edge, put as much of the boat in the water as possible, then pick up the back end and push it into the water. Then when you're ready to go, you don't have to push off too much concrete.

Any other suggestions? I'm gonna skip walking down a slippery arse boat launch with a kayak on my shoulder.

I normally just lower the kayak in from the side of the boat launch.

Is there an area next to the boat launch you can drop it in and then just climb down onto it?

I can count the # of times I have launched from an actual boat launch over the last few years on one hand. Not only do I not want to inconvenience the boaters looking to launch there, but I also don't like to be rushed!

Any place in particular that you are talking about? We may be able to suggest alternative launch spots in the vicinity.

If you absolutely must use a launch, the best way is to use a kayak cart. Get everything ready while away from the launch and then when you are ready to get on the water, wheel the kayak to the ramp, walk it down, take it off the cart, stow the cart in the yak and then jump in and paddle away.

Another way is to launch it like a boat with a bow line and then just step down into it when you're ready to go.

Tie a rope to the cart and launch it like you would a boat on a trailer. Once the kayak is in the water, pull the cart back in by the rope.

ETA: Like was mentioned, if I would've bothered reading further

I've never had to actually go down a ramp before though. That's the beauty of kayak fishing, you can launch that sucker anywhere. You can't tell me there isn't anywhere on the side of the ramp to put your yak in.

Meh, I'm paying to launch there too. I don't get in the way, but also, I certainly don't consider myself an inconvenience by any means. I put my yak in and get going. The best way is to launch your yak and then pull it to one of the sides of the dock that isn't a launch and get yourself set up for the trip and lower yourself in.

I launch in boat launches a good bit. Especially at a marina that I have to pay to park there anyway. I've paid to have access to the launch like any other boat, so I use it. I have a cart, so it makes it really easy. Load everything up, push into the launch, let the cart fall from underneath and stick it in the yak, then head off. I'm faster than 75% of boats that are launching. Just have to make sure no one is about to launch or anything that might not see you.

If I lauch from a dock, its pretty much the same thing, but I have to slide the yak into the water from the dock while trying to make sure I don't tip it and send any of my crap into the water. Luckily my yak is really stable so doing that and getting in without flipping isn't difficult.

Tag along wheel

If you have bolt holes for a rudder on the back of your yak, this should fit.

I was at PAC. First time there and that was the only spot I saw that I could launch. That's the first time I've ever had the issue, also. Normally just launch from the side of the road or something.

Seems like a caster would work just as well and you could probably pick one up for $3

Yeah, you could probably make one from materials at Lowes.

My Slayer came with one. If it ever breaks, I'm not buying another.

Not saying you can't use the ramp, just that sometimes there are easier spots to launch from in the vicinity.

For instance, launching at Beshel's in E. Pointe a la Hache, I tend to use the sandy area just to the side of the ramp rather than the ramp itself.

Launching at Joshua's in Empire there is a place to launch into the marsh south of the marina that is easier to use than the ramp so I tend to do that.

It's all about convenience. If the ramp is best, I will use it. Coco's marina, for instance- thats about the only place to launch if you're using the marina!

When I fish PAC, I usually launch north of Island Rd. into the WMA by the little launch. You can use the ramp, which is not nearly as steep as some ramps, or you can drop the kayak off the bulkhead and launch from there.

I launch at a boat ramp on Lay Lake every time I'm there. They have one of those huge ramps that like 4 boats could launch at the same time.

I park off to the side out of the way, unload the yak and carry it down to the water.

Put it as close to one side as possible go park the truck.

I have all my stuff setup where I can carry it in one trip, put it on the yak, throw rods in the holder and go.

I'm definitely out of the way faster than most of the boats out there.
