Like most college grads I get news along with fund raising appeals mailed to all alums.

Centenary was a politically centrist school when I was there almost 50 years ago. I have heard from students who were there more recently that it has turned into an extremely left wing campus.

Well, today I got an email from a female student in charge of a fund raising campaign. The closing of the letter was a bit strange.

Instead of..

Sincerely,
Jennifer Smith

it said..

Forward. Forward!
Jennifer Smith

My question. Do you think she meant to use a Marxist reference intentionally?

I'll give the benefit of the doubt and say the student is unaware of the phrase's Marxist history until she proves otherwise.

Never automatically chalk up to malice what can be attributed to stupidity.

this isn't a linguistic question. My guess is she doesn't really understand the history, just likes obama and copied his slogan.

Well, it seems to be the wording used in their fundraising campaign so maybe the whole school is turning Marxist!!

Only people who read websites like breitbart and dailycaller understand history.

It's possible. I know one thing...it's turned Lesbo. Last time I was there a few months ago the GLBT banners advertising their meetings and celebrations were hanging all over the place. And the place isn't that large. CC is mostly female so my guess is waaay more lesbians than gay guys.

Wisconsin is a bad example for you. It's the birth place of American socialism.

Gotta have both. There is a tattoo parlor close by so you can get a Dolphin on your calf.

Oh crap Zach.

I just realized something!!!!

CHECK THIS OUT!!

quote:

In 1848, when infighting paralyzed the Democratic Party convention, Dewey emerged as a compromise candidate for governor. To nearly everyone's surprise, he won the popular election and became Wisconsin's first chief executive. Dewey's main job from 1848 to 1852 was to get the government up and running, including creating an official state seal with which to emboss legal documents.
....
Ryan suggested that it repeat New York's motto, "Excelsior," but Dewey refused. They toyed with "Upward" and "Onward" before settling finally on "Forward."
