A Mexican judge refused to dismiss weapons charges against Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi and ordered him back to jail Wednesday evening.

During a hearing in Tijuana, Tahmooressi made his first official courtroom appearance and was able to tell his story to a judge.

I think we ought to send a SEAL Team down to that prison and bring him back. frick Mexico.

It would be easier to send waves of illegals back to Mexico. They would release him pretty quick. We won't do that though.

Why? Americans have been going to prison to Mexico for decades for breaking Mexico's gun laws. Why start now? There are literally hundreds of Americans in Mexican prisons - a huge chunk of those are people who accidentally crossed with ammo or guns like the Marine - or just didn't know better.

Do you think Mexico shouldn't get to make and enforce its own laws?

If he was in Mexico with the weapons they claim he was with there's no way he's getting off. You may as well give up. The law is very strict there. Best he can hope for is someone will make the right bribes to make his prison stay not so bad.

Are you even aware this case is one of hundreds -or even more -of similar cases over the past several decades?

Seriously - I want to know. As someone who has travelled to Mexico, both near the border and the interior, on many occasions - it is common knowledge that if you cross with guns or ammo and are caught you are done for - it is common knowledge the examples of that mistake are rotting in Mexican prisons right now and have been for decades. Its also common knowledge that Americans are liable to the laws of foreign nations when they are in those foreign nations - period. That has been official state department policy forever. Its one of the main reasons I no longer travel to Mexico.

So I am puzzled as to why this particular case matters so much?

People aren't upset that he's in jail for breaking their laws. They're upset that millions of Mexicans aren't in jail for breaking our laws.

I don't even really get your argument. You're saying because MExicans jump the border - American citizens should expect their 2nd amendment rights to follow them to MExico? Here's an idea folks - take some personal responsibility and KNOW WHAT frickING COUNTRY YOU ARE IN.

BTW - there are actually tens of thousands of Mexican citizens in prison. BUt Americans are special. We don't have to follow the laws of the nations we visit. We own the fricking world.

If you are deported and are caught trying to re-enter it is a felony.

Probably the first time I have ever agreed with you, but this is spot on. Upvote for you.

It is.

That's not the typical border crossing case though.

Why do you think we should do this? IMO countries should be able to enforce their own laws

The American wasn't legal when he was arrested.

And to suggest that Mexicans don't go to jail for breaking our laws is simply a lie. Do we have the capacity to place every illegal alien in prison? Not a chance in hell. Catch one with illegal weapons though and you can bet they are going to jail.

You should write your president and suggest that he do the same.

I would love to stay in this argument, but I have to go to work so that I can do my part to help the illegal chirren.

I can't believe I am agreeing with you.

Ignorance of the law is no defense. Ignorance of fact? I don't know in Mexico.

I wish our Pres would do the same, but that doesn't mean I believe the US should dictate Mexican law.

Well then you're both morons. I for one am glad my country doesn't start a violent international incident and put the lives of our best soldiers at risk every time some one breaks the laws of a foreign nation. Homeboy's going to have to be patient. We're not going to put our soldiers lives on the line for his brainfart and we're not going to kill Mexicans to save him who are enforcing their laws. We're going to act like adults from the first world.

What does sovereign America not focusing on protecting its borders and enforcing its immigration law have to do with sovereign Mexico actually following and enforcing their own laws in their own land?
