did not deserve it.

And people think govt. needs to be bigger and spend more??????????????????????????????????

From AP LINK

quote:

By its own estimate, the government made about $100 billion in payments last year to people who may not have been entitled to receive them — tax credits to families that didn't qualify, unemployment benefits to people who had jobs and medical payments for treatments that might not have been necessary.

just think about what could have been done with all of that money. Think of the interstate projects that could have been built, the pipelines, the schools, the power plants, ect. Louisiana's entire coastal erosion problem could have been solved for much less than that.

I wonder how bad it would be if you included state, county, and city governments?

I'd like to also see the demographics of those who received the erroneous money! Illegals, blacks, whites, minorities, men, women..I bet I have a pretty solid idea where a LOT of it went....

This is why I'm starting to think that if we HAVE to live in a world with entitlements, we would be much better off if some bureaucrats came up with a flat number to hand out to every citizen and be done with it. No forms, no 40 different programs with different offices and rules, etc. Just break that all down and just hand over the cash.

Would probably be a lot better than the bureaucratic jungle gym we have today.

The problem is they'd hand it out to the wrong people.

It would all be spent on fast food 3x a day, getting nails did, iphones & apps, new kicks, the hottest jerseys, booze/weed and when the water gets shut off it would become a "humanitartian crisis."

More is never enough.

Teddy- I have said that in the act of 'fairness' everyone should get 2 years of 'welfare' regardless of economic standing. Everyone has hard times, and everyone should be able to receive their 2 years of money with no questions asked. Want it at retirement? Fine. Need to pay for college? Fine. Want to take 2 years off? Fine.

2 years max. Then it's over.

Dream on. after 2 years it will be three, then five and after awhile ten. I wouldn't be long before it would become cradle to grave.

A) This happens now
B) We'd hand it every body, so there is no "wrong people."

I'm curious to see if someone could do the math on it. Sure, it would cost "more" up front, but I'd imagine for no room for waste or gaming the system, costs for all the workers in the various agencies, forms, paper, desks, buildings, etc, you may end up saving money.

You don't give it at one time. It would be monthly.

I hate entitlements as the next guy, but if they aren't going away, we might as well make it efficient, and my gut tells me this is a whole lot easier and cheaper in the long run, but maybe the math is bad. I don't have free time to do it.

Right, so why change to your system if things are going to continue?

We can't afford to hand it out to some people now, but you want to hand it out to everybody????

Yea, more bureaucracy.

Most people hate entitlements; yet we elect people who increase them on a regular basis.

Nothing govt. does is cheap. The only way to save money is to get the Feds out of the welfare business, and to let states do what they want to do.

IRS needs to go away. They have been nothing but corrupt, and I expect this was targeted payments, as well....The working man has no chance in this new corrupt system...

Flat tax, and a bare bones IRS to get the mail, and to deposit the checks. That's all we need.

Fair tax, states collect for FedGov along with their own collections, and Treasury Direct Deposit (with US Mail for those who don't have an account--they get a debit card which gets loaded each month). Minimal HHS bureaucracy for newborns/close out accounts on those who die, dealing with cards that got lost/stolen or to change bank accounts.

States have too much bureaucracy too. Having them collect for the Feds will just add to it.

You don't need debit cards.

Businesses/taxpayers can still pay quarterly by writing a check based on a fixed percentage of their payroll.

These are federal taxes, why have the states collect them? That's just another middle man.
