Superman to appear in Arrow!...well...kind of...

Brandon Routh, a.k.a Superman from Superman returns is set to play Ray Palmer, The Atom, in Arrow's upcoming 3rd season.

This was unexpected

I don't really see that as "meta."

Nothing meta about it.

And we already have an ongoing thread about the additions to the Arrow cast.

Glad to see Routh get some work.

What does going "meta" mean?

And also:

quote:

Also joining Arrow this fall — as previously reported by TVLine — are Sin City‘s Devon Aoki (as DC Comics superheroine “Katana”), Karl Yune (as Oliver’s Hong Kong handler/Katana’s husband Maseo Yamashiro), and Peter Stormare (as Count Vertigo).

I though Oliver killed Vertigo off last season?

Correct. This is a new actor taking over the reigns. He also will only go by Vertigo. No count.

Eta: this show, in only it's 3rd season, is getting huge. This is easily the best super hero show of all time, which I guess isn't saying much because the competition isn't much. I mean love action, btw.

But this is a great addition. I think Routh and Amell will act great off of each other.

SPOILER

quote:

With Gabel's Count having been defeated last year, Stormare will step in as "Werner Zytle" - a new purveyor of the drug Vertigo. TVGuide.com reports that Zytle, who will go by the name Vertigo, will be the first villain Oliver and his team faces in Season 3.

I must have missed that they were going to do that.

And I agree about being the best comic book/super hero live action show to date. I love how they use some of the less popular characters that haven't been done a whole lot. Having the Atom coming into the show is pretty cool, especially with him taking over Queen Consolidated and being a potential love interest with Felicity. It'll be cool to see how he and Oliver interact, especially early on.

I'm going to go head and predict that the season 3 finale will see a mini justice league with Arrow, Flash, Atom, and probably a surprise 4th.

Also, that Oliver will end up back on the island and be okay with that.

Yeah I saw that. Amell has also been campaigning for him. However, it's just that: campaigning. The show runners have given no clue or word they are even considering that. And they are pretty candid on who's showing up. Just look at this announcement

Routh is solid in whatever he does, so this is great news.

What do you mean by ending up back on the island? He went back to the island for a few months in between seasons 1 & 2, and ARGUS has a prison there now that is holding Slade. So it's not like he can be lost on the island again since everyone now knows where it is.

ETA: And I agree that they'll eventually do a mini Justice League episode (or series of episodes), whether it's this season or next.

Oh I didn't mean in the present storyline. I meant flashback story line. Like he will get involved with Amanda, he will have to do things that kill him inside. Somethibg will happen to where they either put him back on the island or he chooses to. I think we see him take huge steps towards that "stone cold killer" we saw in season 1

Oh yeah I agree with that.

But they may wait another season or to for him to go back to the island in the flashbacks. He's still got to meet up with Anatoli and become a captain in the Russian mob. So I imagine he'll have to end up in Russia at some point.

Good point. That could be another option. I kind of think the Russian thing is what eventually gets him off for good. But these are just "crackpot" theories (to borrow from the GoT thread) since the show always goes in unexpected places
