Long story--not a spy (maybe MKUltra though) or terrorist. Need a smartphone stat. Prepaid. I have access to a wal-mart or can order online if it'll arrive in a couple days.

verizon works great where i am. t-mobile might--their coverage map says its a "Service Partner" area.

i don't need latest smartphone--prefer android. GalaxyS3?

(my main phone is a Droid Maxx--it decided to stop working and will take too long to replace. again long story.)

i will use data a lot but not a lot of data (just emailing word and acrobat files mostly).

wifi tethering is a near-must but could live without if i had to.

what's the best and most cost-effective option to get this up and running today or tomorrow?

What you've said makes it sound like you're on Verizon, and I think this is AT&T, but here's a $59 Windows phone without a contract LINK It may not fit your time horizon but is a good "phone died in between upgrades" option.

Why not just get a prepaid ATT/Verizon at walmart?

i saw that windows phone discussed and was considering it.

and re: Wal-Mart, i think that's the way to go. just curious if there were any other options or which phone to go with there.

the S3 is a bit pricey for just a gap-filler, but i do have to drive 2500 miles probably before i get my replacement real phone so i want the apps i use while driving (music, gasbuddy, maps) + i'd like to have dropbox and other android apps.

and yes on Verizon currently.

time to go to the wal-marks i guess. i'll try to get some good pics there with my new phone.
