Looked at the IPad Air and ipad mini's today.

Is there something else that would give me more bang for my buck? Id mainly want one for gaming/entertainment.

Nexus 7 is much more bang for the buck.
Dell Venue Pro 8 only has a 720 screen, but it's got the strongest CPU of them all and runs full windows 8.1

Also, try searching. This topic comes up almost daily.

I did research for my mom on one a few months back because she doesn't do well with apple products and everything I read and researched pointed me to the Samsung Galaxy 2014 edition

She loves it and as an apple guy I was very impressed. Very fast, brilliant picture and easy to use.

The iPad Air is the best tablet.

We can debate about iPhones vs. Android phones and Macs vs. PCs etc. all day long and that debate is legitimate. There is no such debate regarding tablets.

The iPad Air has no competition.

You did say bang for your buck, so if you want to spend less money, sure, there are a few tablets that are great for a cheaper price.

But, if you want the best tablet, you get an Air.

I have a Nexus 7 and love it. I use my computer for work and my tablet for dicking around.

32 GB wifi nexus: $269
32 GB wifi air: $599

Of course I am comparing 10" air to the 7" nexus, but I liked the smaller tablet for handheld stuff. If I travel I stream Netflix using the chromecast that Best Buy included when I bought the nexus

Yes I agree that nothing comes close to the iPad

There is a reason it dominates the market

What objective measures did you use to come to this conclusion?

I'm not tech savvy. I don't know much about tablets. All I care about is whether I can access my Google Drive and edit a file on the go if need be.

You can do this from iOS, Android, and Windows (both RT and 8(.1)) tablets.

Definitely not natively. Also, non of the ones in the App Store work very well for those matters, either, in my experience.

that's always my big hangup with apple products, esp tablets (b/c i save more docs to a tablet if i use for work)

android (and i presume windows) pop up as a normal folder tree when you plug the device into a pc
