How to start watching Walking Dead that is legal and free?

I don't have netflix (would probably get it if no other option presents itself), and don't want to torrent it. I'm a big fan of apocalyptic type shows and was told I'd love the Walking Dead.
I don't watch a lot of TV other than sports so please let me know if there is a way to start from season 1 other than the Netflix option.

Unless your reading comprehension is hampered, Netflix is the option I will be taking if there isn't another easier alternative

You can buy the seasons on DVD.
The first season is awesome.
Second is ok, some really cool parts.
Third season kind of a mix of seasons 1 and 2.

Go to iseri.es (no ".com" or anything). Sign up for free. Log in.

To watch on a pc or laptop using Google Chrome, first download a "user agent switcher" from the Chrome app store. Once installed, use it to switch to the iOS user agent. Then click the link I posted above and you should be good to go.

It's pretty deep into season 4 right now but I've watched it a ton the past few days. I remember why I love this show so much.
