Have any of you guys tried it yet? I picked up a 34 lb bag at costco along with a 12 lb Prime brisket. I've got it on my Big Joe @ 215 and I'm going to let it cook all night, covered in a foil pan.

Why would you cover it in foil for the whole cook?

I've used Stubbs. It does well. Cooking at 215, you should, retain heat all night in the Joe.

I have it. Have trouble getting very high temperature with it. But then again, it could be me, I am still a novice with my Primo Oval XL.

Dunc, I only covered it after 5 hours. I selected large chunks of this lump and it held temp all night.

I put some of the runoff juices over my dogs breakfast, he's still licking the bowl.

Ah OK. I thought that sounded strange. I actually don't foil my brisket at all until I take it off the grill to rest.

I've only seen Stubb's briquets around here, in Lowes, and they are good.

Never seen the lump, but we don't have Costco. Some folks online claim that it's re-branded Cowboy lump.

I've used it in my last two smokes (ribs and a pork shoulder) it takes some effort to get it to a high temp, but once you do, it smokes well for a long time and gives good flavor. Adding hickory helps, but if you are doing a brisket, I would invest in Oak

They sell Stubbs lump at the Lexington Lowes. It usually goes for $12/24lb bag. The Frontier Lump at SAMs is pretty good for $9/24lb bag. I am starting to hate Royal Oak. Found some rocks in bag and does not burn as good as Stubbs.

The Stubb's seems to be denser than Royal Oak and the last bag of kamado joe.

I'm starting to feel that the royal oak will not hold heat that long. I am also a novice primo Xl user also so I may be doing something wrong.

If you're going to cover it up, move it indoors into the oven.
