What are some things you can do on Android that you can't on iOS?

The one complaint I hear from Android users is that they feel too locked down when using iOS. Just wondering what are those things that you can do on Android that you can't on iOS? I've always used an iPhone, so I may not even know what I am missing. I am willing to try the new Android L on a Nexus if I can be convinced of the benefits of using Android over iOS.
Also, will iOS 8 close these customization and other feature gaps to Android, or will there be stuff that will still be missing from iOS even after the next release?

I doubt there's much on either one that you can't accomplish on the other. It's mostly up to your interface preference. I just can't stand the general feel of anything that Apple makes. I can't even really put my finger on it. It just takes me twice as long to find something on iOS as it does Android. Same for OSX and Windows. Finder seems way too dumbed down and takes too many steps to navigate.

Apple has a closed source system. What you see is what you get, what you can install is up to them. With android you can customize nearly everything on the os. Plus you can root and flash many other custom Roms. Which are like different operating systems you can use. You should do some research on it.

Side load apps from other app stores and from around the net and completely change your launcher and theme not just a few minor changes without voiding your warranty are two off of the top of my head.

That doesn't really mean much to me. I don't give a frick about shite like fonts or clocks or colors. What can an Android do in my everyday life that an iPhone can't? 90% of the smartphone users in the world use their phone to text, surf, check emails and play games. How does Android do any of that better?

I would like to see some folks set up hypothetical scenarios -- i.e. "I want to do XYZ. How would I go about doing that on an IOS device? How would I go about doing that on an Android device?"
Followed by intelligent discussion with actual facts and knowledge, and an acknowledgement and respect for each other's differences of opinion.

If that is all the user wants to do, then it's personal preference because both operating systems can do them fine.
I'm an Android user. I'm in the IT field and I like to be able to customize things as much as possible to make them work how I like it. This is much easier to accomplish in an Android environment. Thus my preference. Plus, I enjoy the Google ecosystem much more as a whole. Again, my preference. Not a pissing contest with the Apple crowd

Ok, take for example someone asked about a strip poker app. I doubt either apple or google would let that in their primary app store, but with ios you can't get it without jailbreaking, with android you would just get it from another app store or directly from the developer.
Another example I just thought of, Say you like to play old Nintendo or PS1 games. With android you download the corresponding emulator and grab the free roms found all over the net and you're playing all the classics. With ios you don't play them.

It's all personal preference. My brother is a programmer for a pretty big tech company in the Pacific Northwest and all he owns and works with is Apple products.

Android let's you use a different keyboard. The iPhone one sucks balls.

IOS 8 is finally going to allow third party keyboards for apple.

Want to set chrome or any other browser as your default you're outta luck on iOS... Android allows apps to work and share with each other on a deep level as well.

Can you please give me an example of this statement? This really just blew my mind

It really is more complex than I described. There is a lot that I think android does better, you just need to use it to see the real value.
Everything is more streamlined when you use the Google ecosystem IMO. Again you need to really try it so see the benefits if you don't care about the more techy reasons to buy android.
Plus being able to do whatever you want with your device should be important to you fwiw.
I used to own iPhones for about four years before switching last year. Not looking back at all.

I already "do whatever I want" with my current iPhone 5. Hell, it's pretty much been my work computer the past 2 years.
I spent some time with my nephew's S5 a few weeks ago because I'm due for an upgrade. Nothing was so overwhelmingly better that it made me think my iPhone is such a pos. I just didn't get it I guess.

See, this is the typical IT/techie response. Most of the people on a "tech board" will want to do shite like this. Most regular people just want the phone to turn on and work.
IT is trying to roll out some new software that is all fancy with all sorts of interfaces. I've been chosen as my department's rep on the project. I ask them how it's better than just a drive on the network... "Because you can add calendars and apps and all this cool customization". We don't need all that stuff, we just need files and folders. So now we go through the program and view it in "explorer view". Hey look, same as we did before!
Stupid IT, trying to make everything complicated.
