i'll need more info before going completely esctatic (will existing rick wright tracks be used? is nick mason onboard? dare i suggest, will roger make a cameo?), but my interest has certainly been piqued....

edit: supposedly some of the sessions from 'the big spliff' back in '94 are part of the nucleus of this album....but to what extent is still up in the air, since said sessions were all instrumentals....

meh. Without that tension created by Waters, its an uninspiring band.

Wright's swansong

One of the most thoughtful, inventive, iconic musicians ever. Everybody knows his parts, even if they don't know his name.

they're a better band with waters, sure, but once he started taking over the band, by many accounts he was stingy about sharing the wealth in terms of songwriting credit. without gilmour & ezrin's help on 'the wall', i dread to think how that album would've sounded. rick wright practically deserves a writing credit on "sheep" (from 'animals') for his synth work on that track. gilmour, on the other hand, gave credit for even the slightest of contributions (as corroborated by several folks in the book 'a saucerful of secrets', and no doubt other sources too)....so while waters WAS important, he wasn't the deity he thought himself as (at the time)....

The equivalent to me of Joy Division/New Order. Not nearly as good after their genius was gone but more commercially successful.

I'm a Gilmour guy....Waters was a depressed little bitch who just became annoying after all the whining.

huge "what if".....what if the recent project roger just started on wasn't for a solo album, but instead he was actually putting his $.02 in on the floyd album? probably not, but hey, no one originally thought gilmour was working on a floyd album either....

btw, album confirmed:

7 July 2014

'THE ENDLESS RIVER'

Pink Floyd can confirm that they are releasing a new album, The Endless River, in October 2014. It is an album of mainly ambient and instrumental music based on the 1993/4 Division Bell sessions. The album is produced by David Gilmour with Phil Manzanera, Youth and recording engineer Andy Jackson. Work is still in progress, but more details to come at the end of the summer.
