Changing bosses quesiton

I'm a member of a pretty cohesive team of about 7-8, there are 2 chiefs and I'd say about 5-6 Indians. I'm an Indian in this scenario.

One of my coworkers put in his notice, while it used to be me and 3 others reporting to Chief #1, and the 2 others reporting to Chief #2, we are now all under Chief #1. My coworker was the last one under chief 2.

Basically, I'm nervous that I'm going to get moved under chief #2 managerially. If for no other reason than to split up the "boss" work of reviews and approving vacation, etc. Like I said, it's a cohesive team so I already work a ton with this guy. And on a day to day basis, I work more with him than my own boss. That's why I'm nervous I'll be moved.

Why? He's the old-fashioned "face time" kind of guy that thinks you need to slave here from 7am-7pm, is nosy about what's going on in your desk area/on your computer, can be very ornery in general. In fact, I have to deal with these attitudes from him already because like I said, we're a cohesive team... but at least I know it's not him approving my vacation or writing up my reviews (all of which have been great under Chief #1).

Anyways, trying to think ahead and see what options I have (if any) to ensure my happiness in my current situation. We're all hard workers on the team, it's just that this guy is pretty over the top and has dedicated his life to the cause . I know I'll absorb new responsibilities with this change, I already have, but wondered what the best approach is to try to make sure I work under a boss I like to work under.

Our team overall, chiefs and Indians, is managed remotely by what I'll call a warlord in another office.

Do I talk to my boss? Is it too early/presumptive since it's just my hunch that this will happen? What if it's decided, is it too late/inappropriate to express my desire not to be moved to him?
