Never fished that area before and was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on where to catch a few specks or reds. i have a 18ft flats boat so i think the islands are out of the question for me. not asking anyone to give away their secret spot, just a general are thta sometimes holds fish. Thanks

I don't know about water conditions at the moment, but google map the town of Ansley and find LaFrances boat launch. That area by the bridge and really the mouth of all of those little bayous, when falling, can be good. Depending on tide you can get back into some shallow lakes...or just stop at fishy looking points.

You could have fun just running crab balls, with live shrimp, for triple tail as well.

If that's too far there are a couple debris reefs just off the coast, bayou Caddy, or just cruise the private piers and pilings tossing whatever you have at them.

I'd run into the bay and fish the bridges, the oyster beds in between the bridges, pilings on the northeast side of the railroad bridge, and all the docks on the east side of the bay

Do what redneck said plus look at the ms dmr site and it has cords on all the inshore reefs. There are a handful in the bay. My favorite reef that's "inside" and protected is the Melini point reef. Plenty of redfish there and also due south (you'll see it, it's visible) is grass marsh where a few bayous and the jordan River meet the bay. There are slot reds in this area year round. You won't catch many (if any) big ones, they'll all moved "outside". This area will still hold slot reds, puppy drum, croaker, and a few trout. Good luck

ETA- live or market shrimp on the bottom. Market will kill your chances at trout but there aren't many with size around that area right now. I prefer live fwiw

In relation to what gaston posted, all that area in lafrance looks like a redfish haven, I've just never fished there. I've just rode through.

Here's the area I'm talking about.

There is a launch in PC just north of the 90 bridge. It's called the Henderson Point Launch. The area I was talking about fishing is due south of henderson point. That reef is just off the shore line. The grass south of that gets shallow so be careful about running through there but there are redfish there.

My buddy's dad owned Pelican Cove marina right on the point before Katrina, we had some incredible trips out there. If it's flat calm with no chance of a squall, run out to Cabbage Reef. I'm sure you can find the waypoints online, with live croakers on Carolina rigs. If I remember correctly, it was just a few miles from the point.

My BIL has an insane flats skiff, 18' Hells Bay (Gordon) Waterman, and he fishes that area. It's a beautiful area, and super interesting with the lodge ruins on this side of the RR bridge. It can get very shallow and there are tons of great spots if water is moving.

He usually trailers his boat to LA to fly fish for the big ones, but if we're doing a quick trip for specs or reds that's usually the area.

Trying to get to Isle au Pitre in that style boat would be insane.

I figured its great that way, I'm just not experienced over there.

A couple weekends ago we rode some 1-2'2 in our 22 ft bay boat to islu au pitre. Wasn't a great ride but not the worst. Got out there and there was 16 foot bass boat out there. I looked at my dad and asked how the hell they got out there.
