We are thinking of taking a trip (Fri-Mon) there in a couple of weeks & was looking for some advice on where to stay (hotel in the city or cabin on the outskirts), where to eat, & what to do. Neither of us has ever been & was hoping to get some trip/food ideas. TIA

The wife and I went back in '10, it's a pretty town with the mountains and the lakes.
We stayed in a dump hotel.
Ate at a few good restaurants, but damnit I can't recall the names of them.
There's a duck boat tour that's not too bad.
Avoid the "aquarium", or maybe go in if you want a good laugh.
Their biggest tanks are small enough to be in someone's house.

If you've ever been to the aquarium in New Orleans, the one in hot springs looks like someone's personal collection.

I have never done the cabins there but I have heard that they are great.

The wife and I ussually go about twice a year and stay at the Arlington Hotel downtown. The hotel is old and the rooms are not that nice but its only like $100 a night and the hotel itself is a historical site. There are a few decent recent resturants downtown including Bel Arte and The Porterhouse. Both have good food at a reasonable price.

The Arlington is not close to the lake, so if you were interested in bringing or renting a boat there, it may not be the best choice. We have also spent time on Hamilton and it is a great lake but can get very crowded on the weekends during the summer.

We stayed here

This place is not bad. We got one of the three bedroom cabins. It's very close to everything. Most places were good to eat but the one on the lake at the bridge is terrible and WAY over priced.

I don't understand why Hot Springs doesn't have better attractions.

check out Panther Valley Ranch

it is Barely outside of the city. Its right next to Superlift ORV Jeep Park. they have small lodges to accommodate couples or up to 6 i think. they are nice and you also have the option for horse back riding there and other activities

We stayed at Degray State Park a few years ago. I would highly recommend it. The lake is awesome and it is close to a lot of other attractions. We spent a few days in Hot Springs and two days digging for crystals. It was about 20-30min to Hot Springs.

Stayed at Embassy Suites last year. The Arlington Hotel is neat but an older hotel obviously. Check out Lake Quochita park, it's awesome. Lots of great hiking, lakes, etc to check out locally.
