Looking at a flight in August. Spirit is just about half as much as any other airline. I've never heard of them, is it worth it? Or are they nothing but trouble?

TIA

From what I have heard, you get what you pay for.

And you have to pay to even bring a carry on or print your ticket

Spirit is worse than others. The quality gap becomes more apparent the longer the flight.

If you're taller than 5'8 or so pay extra for the extra legroom seats. Also know that Spirit charges for EVERYTHING. They're cheap, though, and consistently profitable.

Alright, well this doesn't look good for them!

I should have mentioned the flight will only be for about an hour and a half. Strictly carry on.

Price difference is about $110. So we'd be saving $220 roundtrip.

ETA: So basically, would you put up with their shite knowing this.

Is that $220 including the charges you have to pay for carry on, printing boarding pass, sitting together and for any drinks(water) on flight?

They are not worth the price. I have never had a flight that was close to on time or have known anyone who had a flight on tie with them.

It's an ultra low cost carrier airline, so of course you're going to pay different fees. The more you carry on or have the more it will cost you to fly. I know a guy that flies their bigger birds.

A friend of mine used to fly Spirit to see some broad in Costa Rica. He'd wear 3-4 pairs of clothes--shirts, shorts and pants--so he wouldn't have to pay their baggage fees. He looked like the Pillsbury Doughboy waddling through the terminal.

Don't think so. I'll have to check out their website to see what they charge to see if it's worth it.

They are fricking terrible. This thread just reminded me I need to file a claim/lawsuit against them I keep forgetting about.

First they will charge you $35 for a carryon each way. Second, their seats are cramped and there is little legroom. They will charge $5-$50 to pick you seat if you want (like window or isle or a seat up front with normal legroom).

Now, the reason for my lawsuit that I haven't gotten around to..

5-6 months ago, I got to the airport 1 hour and 15 minutes before my flight leaving vegas was scheduled to depart. I printed my boarding pass 1 hour and 10 minutes prior to departure and got to the desk to check my single relatively small bag.

I was told the flight had arrived early and was departing early which meant in 35 minutes. They said that was not enough time for me to get on the flight. Additionally all flights out were full (they do mange to always sell every seat) until the redeye the next night, flying to LA, then Miami.

I was not exactly happy. I had received no notification until that moment the flight was departing early. Naturally I said what the frick are you talking about? You can't just leave whenever the frick you want to. I made them go get their terms of carriage which is a contract between you and the airline when you pay for the ticket. They looked up the terms and found where it said you had to print your boarding pass 1 hour prior to departure (it is time stamped when you print it). Then they told me departure was in 30 minutes.

They tried to argue the moved up departure time was what mattered. Obviously I lost my shite at that point asking if they just thought they could move the departure time up to whenever the frick they felt like without notifying a passenger.

Long story short, I stood there and argued that absurd point until the plane departed and pissed off a huge line of people that got backed up trying to check in. I didn't care and told them I waould stand there all damn day. I made sure to be loud so everyone around got the picture of what was going on. Finally I figured I was starting to be at risk of them calling security so I told them they were paying for my hotel I had to go back to for that day and the next. They refused. I went back to the hotel, paid $275 for that day and $280 for the next as they were full. Saved every receipt, the time stamped boarding pass, etc.

Lawsuit is going to be for all my expenses and a day and a half of missed work at my billing rate and I am filing this week. This thread just reminded how bad they fricked me.
