I only had a chance to watch the highlights. First American to referee a R16 match

Thanks in advance.

Haven't watched the game yet, but from the reaction of everyone on here, terrible.

People around here said he didn't do a great job but I only watched the game in passing while working so I can't make a good assessment.

I watched the entire game, without distractions, and I think he did fine.

Same. I also thought it was a very enjoyable game for the most part.

One could argue that he could have punished Giroud for the elbow, or maybe been more harsh on the Matuidi foul (I think it could have gone either way but was closer to a yellow since he didn't leave his feet). He let the game flow and wasn't quick to blow his whistle. Overall he did a decent job.

If it were a big national team, there would've been a lot of media and internet talk about Geiger not sending Matuidi off in the 2nd half.

That play should have been a straight red - the act also resulted in an injury that forced Nigeria to substitute.

It wasn't a blatant red but I think most would agree it should have been given.

Other than that, Geiger did fine.

The more physical the better the less whistles the better.

I thought he did fine. The Matuidi (sp?) yellow could have been red for sure. Again, I think Geiger leans on the safe side and issues a yellow. He is trying to be as invisible as possible which is a good thing. Remember, he has a lot of pressure on him. He needs to not screw up so he can get future World Cups.

He definitely "let them play".

The rumors of America's pussification have been premature and exaggerated. Thanks Gieger.
