it'll be interesting to see his Q2 finance reports. Q1 reports did not look good for him at all.

Exactly, he ruined his reputation with The Robertsons and Duck Commander commands that district, whether Vance likes it or not.

You don't run on family values in an evangelical district and then cheat on your wife with your best friend's wife. You can run as a TPOS and do it, but you can't run as a family values candidate. The fact that he cheated with his best friend's wife is worse than just cheating in general. I mean, how are supposed to trust him not to screw us over when he'll screw over his wife and his best friend. It's hard to trust a guy like that to do what he says he will do.

Don't worry i completely understand the level of hypocrisy in his running then doing what he did.

I don't know if i completely agree with this sentiment however. Some people can have perfect professional lives even if their personal life is in shambles. And vice versa.

Its kind of like saying all drug dealers are dishonest which is not the case.

It's more of a "don't pretend to be something you're not". Why? Because if you get caught being something else, how can anyone believe that you are who you say you are ever again. The circle of trust is broken.

If you run for office with it out in the open that you're a scoundrel or a deviant (see David Vitter) while saying that your personal life doesn't matter nearly as much as your professional one, then it works. Vitter ran as Vitter, so people voted for him. Everyone knows that Vitter is only looking out for himself, will do whatever it takes to advance his career, and will where a diaper and f&%k hookers on the side if he so chooses. That's ok, because he doesn't lie about it. Everyone knows he's a POS, but they respect him for his honesty.

Maybe i haven't kept up with this but wasn't he a family values guy at first too and then changed once allegations of different things came up.

to me, two of these things are not like the other. I could give a frick if he screws hookers. But not looking out for his constituents is not ok. atleast to me.

quote:

From the beginning of his political career 16 years ago, Senator David Vitter has been known for efforts to plant himself on the moral high ground, challenging the ethics of other Louisiana politicians, decrying same-sex marriage and depicting himself as a clean-as-a-whistle champion of family values.

What I was saying is that he does not pretend to be anything other than what he is, a slimy politician. People know who he is and will vote for him or not vote for him based on that. I have more respect for someone who is honest about being a bad person than someone who pretends to be a good person, but is a bad person at heart.

Isn't that what this is about - both his personal and professional lives being intertwined?

I didn't know it was his BFF's wife. Why was his BFF's wife a staffer in the first place? Kind of strange. I wonder if the husband suspected anything before the video came out.

Vitter ran on high moral grounds/ champion of family values every election prior to the diaper/stipper thing... don't know how it is any different

One reason it was made such a fuss about in the media.

Vitter wasn't honest either at first. And cheating on a wife doesn't necessarily make you bad person at heart. There have been some very good politicians who were not scrupulous in personal life
This isn't an attack on vitter by any means. just trying to figure out the difference between the two besides name recognition.

Also, even though it's practically common knowledge that he did that shite, it also was never proven. Also, he never came out and said he wouldn't run for reelection and then changed his mind. That's pretty slimy, too.

In case you haven't noticed, I don't like Vitter, I would not vote for him, but I kinda respect him in some ways.

Might as well forget moral people in politics and just pay attention to what they actually do.

Would you rather a politician cares about his job but has an occasional dalliance or one that ignores the job he is paid to do while running for a higher office??

They all stink.
