Curious, should we change out of this 4-5-1 or stay with it but move personnel around?

Jurgen has to be thinking of a more aggressive attacking lineup and strategy.

Depends on if jozy plays. If he does, expect two forwards and four midfielders. If he doesn't, nothing changes.

If Jozy plays, it's real simple in my eyes: 4-4-2 diamond

If Jozy doesn't play?

I think we see Jozy but as a sub.

No Jozy = Portugal lineup

I am not huge on the diamond, but it may best fit most of our personnel because Jozy seems to like having a second striker and Clint/Aron (as a sub) could work well in that role. It makes me worry defensively though. Bradley and Jermaine will have to be disciplined.

I think that someone besides Bedoya needs to start. I felt that way prior to Germany and nothing has changed.

I do not necessarily agree, but we have no options unless we only start one of Zusi and Bedoya, and I think I prefer Bedoya. We know Brad Davis is not an option. Yedlin is a sub at most.

Please do not say Julian Green. It would be like the Astros starting Brady Aiken in the majors.

I like Zusi over Bedoya

Fair enough. I felt that way until pretty recently. I wish Zusi's crosses were on though.

I don't the 4-5-1 at all. It got us the results we needed in the group stage, but it was inherently negative.

It basically set us up to absorb pressure, and clear the ball wide. Clint is too slow and knackered late in the game to pressure defenders. Beckerman and Jones protect the backline leaving Bradley alone in the middle of the field. Zusi and Bedoya are typically too tired from defending the flanks the whole game.

I would rather see Johansson or Wondo start alongside Clint, if Jozy isn't ready.

Even if Jozy is fit to play, I still wouldnt start him. He wont be at 100%. I would use him as a sub in the 65th minute. Not only does it bring on another goal scorer, but it changes our look. We would have 1 forward up front for most of the game and the Belgium D gets used to that look. Bringing Jozy on gives us 2 up front and its a completely diff look.

Think I'm leaning this way, too, in a 4-4-2 diamond

But if he only goes 10' and pulls it again and needs to come off, you're fricked

If he plays, he has to start, IMO.

Yea true... but if thats the case he shouldnt be starting then.

Simple solution: If he isnt 100% then he shouldnt play.

Plus, all I have heard hes been able to do is job at practice. We play on Tuesday. If all hes doing is jogging, I doubt he will be ready to go by Tuesday.

And a lot of it depends on how the game is going anyways.

So we use a sub to put jozy in for a striker. If he gets hurt we have to use another sub to put in ANOTHER striker. Getting thin here.

If Jozy is healthy, he needs to start.

Not really the thread for this, but Twellman said we are 31st in possession after group stages.

This will probably be their line up. We got to get some possession. We can't allow an onslaught like Ghana, because they are just so much better than them.
ETA: Kompany doubtful and Dembele for Fillaini possibly.

I see a 3-4-3 Diamond for us, but I admittedly follow more EPL than international play and may be overestimating our ability to run that formation well.

Agree, I favor Wondo against Belgium.

I want us in a 4-4-2 w/ or without Josy. It's time to play to win. If Belgium wins I don't want it to be because we hung our hat on the 4-5-1.

I had an idea about 3-5-2, so you have my attention. Care to expound?
