Would pushing the penalty kicks back 10 yards make shootouts more exciting?

Make it more skill and less luck for the goalies?

I've played soccer my entire life, and I was actually wondering this.
But I think the real answer is running penalty kicks. They do it at the highest level of Texas high school soccer. Takes a lot more skill.
Player starts from the circle and has like 5 seconds to get a shot off. They can dribble and keeper can come off his line.

Wow that'd be interesting.

As a casual observer I don't think it would. The shootout between Brazil and Chili was very exciting. The goal keeping in the match between Costa Rica and Greece was not very good and I think that made the shootout less exciting as the other

It's a good system, and would be (IMO) the best way to decide a game after 120 minutes....better than a PK shootout. Still keep PK's in the game for fouls in the box though.

10 yards? Seriously?
It would be impossible to score
It would be impossible to score

When the MLS began they used this type of shoot out to settle ties. It was scrapped pretty quickly I think

I think the NASL had an interesting idea, but I don't think enough countries would ok that change. Why don't we just go back to golden goal?

I think Texas did away with this a few years ago and moved to traditional pk's.

10 yards is a bit too far to back it up.
But I do think the spot could be backed up a few yards(for shoot-outs). Sure, the skill in PKs involves putting pace on a ball with great shot placement, but at the level of the world cup and professional leagues, you should be able to put the ball on target from a few yards further back.
with that said, I would only do it for shootouts. You can't make the PK too difficult when it involves a foul in the box, denying a goal scoring opportunity, etc.

Shoot outs are plenty exciting. Next question.

Agree. Shoot outs are insanely tense. I like them fine how they are.

PK's are already extremely exciting. To anyone that thinks they are " "too easy" has never played.

Way more nerve racking than a free throw in basketball. And I don't see anyone complaining about those being to easy.
