Insider article from ESPN. If you're not a subscriber I'll post the order below for you.

LINK

1. Brazil
2. Argentina
3. Germany
4. Netherlands
5. France
6. Colombia
7. Belgium
8. Mexico (wtf?)
9. Chile
10. Costa Rica
11. Uruguay
12. USA
13. Switzerland
14. Nigeria
15. Greece
16. Algeria

quote:

12. United States

The U.S. ultimately needed some help to advance into the Round of 16, but also played well enough in its first two games to come within seconds of avoiding any need for a competitive result in its third and final group game against Germany. The attack is led by Clint Dempsey, whose two goals and eight shots have been critical given the hamstring injury to starting striker Jozy Altidore. Defensively the U.S. relies on its ability to break up plays, and the team's 49 total interceptions rank fourth among remaining teams. While I've got the U.S. ahead of Switzerland (No. 13 below) based on the Swiss' defensive weaknesses, I can't put them above Uruguay based on collective talent and play thus far in the tournament.

What do you guys make of the list?
I generally disagree with it. I wouldn't even agree with the top 5.

I'd move down Argentina to 4.

I'd move Chile up to at least above Mexico (and probably Belgium)

Switzerland should be a little high while Uruguay and Costa Rica should be a little lower

I would put Chile and Costa Rica both above Mexico.

1. Netherlands
2. Germany
3. Brazil
4. France
5. Argentina (as much as I hate to say it because they've been a 1 man show this WC)

Mexico has honestly looked pretty good. They've only let in one goal and it was a meaningless one at that. Argentina does not look like that terrifying, and I'd move France up

11.Costa Rica
12.Switzerland

I don't think they're giving near enough credit for group difficulty. Mexico beat the worst team in the tournament 1-0, played well against Brazil but still got bailed out by bad finishing and an incredible goalkeeping game, and then poured it on late against a Croatia side coming off a Manaus game who had to try and win.

Same with Costa Rica. Faced Uruguay without their talisman and best player, and then played Italy coming off a hard fought Manaus game and then played an England side with nothing to play for.

Compare that to our games and the fact that we had the most travel of any team in the tournament and had to play our own Manaus game

No way should Brazil be number 1. Netherlands should be higher as should France.

NO WAY Ochoa replicates his play vs Brazil again in this tourney.

France has been playing well.

I don't see them getting past Germany in the Quarters though...

have any of you actually watched Belgium? They've sucked. They scored 4 goals in the shittiest group.

I watched their last match, and wasn't impressed. Having said that though they do seem like a team that will just wear you out then have enough quality to score late and keep on the pressure.

Chile at 9 is kind of a joke.

I'd say

1. Netherlands
2. Germany
3. Brazil
4. France
5. Argentina
6. Chile
7. Belgium
8. Colombia
9. Costa Rica
10. Uruguay
11. U.S.
12. Mexico
13. Switzerland
14. Greece
15. Nigeria
16. Algeria

That's a rough draft.
