1. Mission accomplished! Jurgen and the boys made it out of the group. They've only played about 115 minutes of good soccer. We've had to park the bus to grind out results, but we've succeded and now the pressure is off. Every win from here on out will capture the imagination of the greatest country on earth. Every win hastens the future of the sport in this country. A future where soccer is major league and the USMNT is a power.

2. Soccer haters gon' hate. They aren't going to like the sport because a) they don't want to, b) they aren't intelligent enough to, and c) all of the above. We should be happy about that. We've already won the battle on the business side. We get our soccer and they get to bitch about it. If stupid people reject soccer, that's great. They're the reason this board isn't the SEC rant. I prefer discussion over name-calling and tolling.

3. The pool is deeper than ever. There are probably 20-25 players as good or better than Brad Davis who didn't make the squad. Guys like Benny Feilhaber, Joe Corona, Tim Ream, Terrence Boyd, Danny Williams, Lee Ngyuen, Brek Shea. We had maybe 5 guys like that last time around. The big snub was old Brian Ching.

4. Jurgen Klinnsmann traded a wc spot for Julian Green's future. So far it hasn't hurt.

5. Beckerman's teammates have called him the Payton Manning of soccer. I think he's starting to live up to the hype. He's been able to make smart play after smart play out there. breaking up attacks and relieving pressure effectively. I think it's very telling that everyone playing behind him (except Cameron) has looked good.

6. Clint Dempsey is a goddamned hero. Every Sounders game post world cup should sellout no matter where it is.

7. DMB has been a hero too.

8. Bradley has been a turnover machine. So has Zusi, but Zusi has two assists. If Bradley figures it out and Jozy is healthy we could win a world cup.

9. SKC are going to receive offers for Besler. It'll be interesting to see where he goes or if he goes.

10. I think Jurgen's figured out the tactics for this team. I'm excited for Tuesday.

11. Donovan›››Davis, but frick it, I'm over it.

You're not dumb if you don't like soccer. It just means you don't like soccer. This board complains about trolls but then provokes them.

I think he's trolling. Why?

The biggest snub was Robbie Findley, but I agree with the rest

my opinion of the USNT right now:

1. we're a LOT better than the majority of the world believes we are. we're possibly a legit top 10 team right now

2. we are looking dangerous offensively, but only as a threat. if we can make slight adjustments, we can be scary offensively

3. we're still a pain in the arse on defense and howard always brings it for the USNT, esp in terms of attacking shots and crosses in the box

4. we're FAAAAAAST on the wings when our fullbacks push

I didn't realize that snub could be used for someone who made the roster.

Seven of the group winners are probably better than us. Despite their play in this tournament, there is still Spain and Italy. Uruguay and Chile are probably ahead as well compared to the other second place teams. I would struggle to put us any higher than 12th at best.

Portugal, Ghana, England, Croatia, Mexico, etc. are all around our levels, and you can certainly argue that some are above us. Sweden and Ukraine are two of the best teams to miss the World Cup. There are plenty of other decent teams in our tier like Bosnia, Japan, Ivory Coast, etc.

A lot of the teams fighting for that 12th spot have world class players that we do not in Rooney, Ronaldo, Modric, Dzeko, Kagawa, Yaya, etc. Not really a huge gap between 12-25 or so. I am not even saying the top 11 are that great because Uruguay is not incredible or anything, but they are likely ahead of us.

We are definitely fast - Fabs is a danger man.

Besler is a top center half in this tournament. He should be playing in Europe.

Dempsey is the best combo of finishing and creative soccer the US has ever had.

Dreads has been the most reliable player on the team this WC.

Johnson and Yeldin are the future of a attacking style US soccer that will stretch teams out and burn them. We should always be stacked at keeper but we have a real chance to really progress on offense

I was wondering what the frick he had to do to get some love in this thread. If he hadn't been so god damn awesome, we'd be heading home.

They are nice options on the wing no doubt. The real question is when do we produce a world-class traditional #10.

Also, Jones has been the fricking man. I missed that earlier.

Jones is obviously our best player right now.

Without him we are definitely not through.

We are really really close to being a pretty good team. We need a few more attacking players. If we had some players like Rossi and Subotic choose the US, we might be there right now.
