Do you need to book this in advance through your hotel, or can we just get a cab from a cab stand?

I would book it in advance. Else you will be swamped with a ton of people trying to sell you timeshares/tours in the process.

book in advance to avoid the hassle and more than likely being overcharged. also, do not be fooled by the large group of people who appear to be govt. officials just inside the exit towards shuttles/cabs. they are trying to sign you up for excursions, etc. Enjoy!

We grabbed a shuttle once we got their. I think it was $17/person and we had to stop at another resort on the way to drop others off, but we didn't schedule it.

I avoided the cabs because there are 500 shady Mexicans claiming they have a taxi. It was overwhelming.

Hotel is quoting $15/person each way. Is that normal?

Sounds like a decent price to me.

I don't remember how much ours were. Our travel agent booked it into our package and we also stayed in Playa so it was a longer drive.

Much longer drive...shuttle got a flat so our welcome to Playa was sitting on the side of the road until another shuttle could pick us up.

I'd say so. Someone in our group did a taxi and they paid about $55, so the best deal depends on how many people you have.

We would have done the shuttle anyway, because frick that rapey cab situation.

Check the price here. You can arrange your transfer, but $15/person is very reasonable.

We're are using "USA transfers" in July. They are very highly reviewed on tripadvisor and other sites. It's $60 round trip for both of us. They hold a sign for you at the airport. The best part is we don't have to share it with anyone. The transfer is private and goes directly to our resort. After flying half the day, I don't care to share a shuttle and stop at every resort along the way dropping people off.

Remember you are spending money to go to a foreign country. Don't be foolish and worry about saving $7 a person to get to your hotel quickly and safely.

Book in advance and use a service like USA transfers...It's worth the extra cost. You can't take a cab from the Airport...It's not allowed

When you see the lines at customs you are going to be pissed. When you are traveling to your resort and you smell the open sewers you are going to wonder why you came to a third world country voluntarily. When you get to your resort it is nice though. Then you have to start the whole process over to get home. Have fun.

If you've never been to the Cancun airport, there are literally dozens of transportation service people hassling the shite out of people to use their taxis or busses. You'll have no problem getting a ride.

Here is what happened to us, you have to watch out for those folks man, we had booked ours with expedia and went ahead and got a hotel transfer for just us 2 to our hotel. I forgot the name of the company but I will call it xyz. We get off the plane get our bags and walk out side, it was pretty crazy out there and I was looking for someone with an xyz shirt or sign. This guy walks up and ask if we are ready to go and we were like yea are you with xyz and they said yea and tried to get us in the taxi line. Then i saw someone with an xyz shirt on and asked if that guy worked with them and he was like no he is a taxi driver. Long story short if you pay in advance make sure you know who you are looking for when you get off the plane, those mexicans down there will do ANYTHING for a buck...

First time down there we were a group of 18 year old kids that got drunk on the flight and forgot all our paperwork at home. Don't know how we made it

book in advance. You DO NOT want to get a cab in Cancun. If you want to go anywhere once you reach your hotel, use the bus. They are cheap and readily available.

Just wanted to reiterate, you can't take a Taxi from the Cancun Airport.

Also, anyone that approaches you inside the airport, regarding transportation, is a timeshare rep trying to scam you. Private transfer companies or shuttle/bus service takes place outside of the airport...They aren't allowed inside the airport. Private transfer companies will be holding up a sign with your name once you get outside.
