In terms of this World Cup, I don't think we are THAT far off

This is not about where we are in terms of a soccer power, rather just regarding this tournament.

Watching these matches, this is a lot like 2002 (minus Brazil) where there is no clear cut best team. Everybody left has its flaws and can easily be beaten. If we do advance tomorrow, we should definitely be happy that we got out and regardless of what happens afterwards this WC will be considered a success, but we can win 1 or possibly 2 matches after that.

Good team play and no stupid penalties or dumb play in our defensive third we should be okay. Gotta clear the ball and posses it, no give aways in or around the box.

This is the most wide open WC I can remember in recent memory. It's also a WC where nearly every team has had great trouble defending, no team seems to have a solid and dependable back 4.

Check back after tomorrow... if we draw or best Germany, I'll agree with you. Ghana basically controlled the game... and we looked uneasy once we equalized Portugal and they began to pressure the ball more.

But the similarities to 2002 are there... hope we can get back to that position and take advantage this time.

It sucks we couldn't get into a good group. There are some groups where I think we would do really well.

Which happens first, the USMNT wins a World Cup or England wins another?

We could be winning a lot of other group outright.

If it's just those two options, then it is the US, but neither is probably the strongest possibility.

Not sure what you don't understand. There is no dominant team in this World Cup except for France and... well... it's only a matter of time before they pull a France.

Colombia has been dominant. 9 points. Outscored their opposition 9-2.

This is the 1st World Cup I can truly say we can beat anyone in the field. We have also retained the "American belief" that willed us through the group stages in 2010.

Obviously, we'd match up somewhat poorly with the attacking sides of Brazil and Argentina, but we are talking about tourney favorites.

We are finally playing a brand of soccer that is dangerous and puts pressure on the opponent. We have never looked so confident and swagged out in the attacking 3rd.

In one of the weakest groups in the field.

I'd be alot more afraid of Colombia if they still had Falcao up front. Guy is a monster when he's healthy

We have a maybe 5% chance of beating Argentina or France if we somehow get to the quarter finals. I want to believe, but a quarterfinals appearance would be awesome and best case scenario.

Argentina if Messi falls back to 06 & 10 WC form are extremely vulnerable.

That is the most positive thing you have ever said about the USMNT.

Would we really be ahead of Brazil, Netherlands, Colombia, France, or Argentina? I think we could be doing well in Group H. I guess we could have won Costa Rica's group, but that was a shocker.
