in years like this, it just sets up perfectly
nba finals ends in late june, preseason training began last july.
season lasts through may.
world cup year, soccer into mid-july.
about a 10 day gap until nfl training camp starts and by that time club soccer preseason will be in full swing.
keeps me in the sports flow year-round
obviously not every year sets up like this, but when there's a world cup or the euros or the gold cup next year, it is awesome.
also being able to look at all the handsome men playing the sport is another perk.

It's the beautiful game. It's subjective. Has flow and finesse.
It brings cultures together from everywhere in the world for an amazing tournament and gives me a reason to go to London every year to watch matches.

Its the ultimate grind and struggle in sports. You could be dominating for the entire match, but fall asleep on a corner or a counter attack and then whammy.... thats all she wrote. In most sports, if you are dominating 70%-80% of the game you are going to blowout your opponent. In soccer, you could dominate for 90% of the match and end up losing. Like everyone has been saying... Soccer is a cruel, cruel sport.
And theres nothing better than seeing a great build up for a goal. A couple of great passes into space, 1 touch passing and cutting into the box, and then it opens up like a hookers legs after being paid.
Ive also come to the conclusion that its a hard sport to just watch and pick up, but once you understand everything thats going on, as in the rules during games, difference between friendlies / league or tourney play, all the different leagues and tournaments and teams(Europa, Champions, EPL, club, national, etc), its awesome and addictive.
Ive been a fan for years now, but I have tried to get some family members and friends interested in it and watched them go from hating soccer ---> enjoy watching --->interested but confused and asking questions ---> understanding and enjoying it ---> obsessed and in love with it.
Its very rewarding watching that cycle

I love it because it's the most exciting sport there is.

Best I can do to explain is set forth my experience with the game.
- Waaaay back in college I took a PE class (I'm not sure they even have college PE anymore) which was pretty much a little dose of a bunch of different sports over the semester. One was soccer and it was fun!
- Fast forward to my son's younger days. We were lucky enough to live in a Parish where there was a thriving soccer program at the very young ages. He enjoyed it and his friends did too and he made new ones playing.
- As the kids got older the overall numbers of players and coaches dwindled and I got drafted to coach (thank God for soccerhelp.com) and we played teams from the surrounding areas. And again it was very enjoyable for both for the kids and for me.
- Fast forward again and my son was in starting high school. Was doing very well at baseball and then decided to join soccer as a 2nd sport. He fell in love with it to the point he dropped baseball to play year round. And somehow I ended up doing everything from the stats to photos to news articles, etc. etc. The majority of the team and parents even managed a trip to Houston to see an MLS game.
Well, that's how it progressed. My son and his friends are finished with high school but they still play indoor and have gatherings for the big US games. They are even talking about saving money to go to England for an EPL game (that should be interesting if it happens - they are split among Man City, Man U and Arsenal fans.
It's definitely a game that sells itself. Especially among the young people that have played it on any kind of a consistent basis.

I've lived in Argentina and Costa Rica.

I love everything about it. All the different leagues and competitions around the world, the passion, unity, and excitement that it elicits, and the tactical elements as well. To me, there is no better feeling in the world than when your team scores a goal, and the live game experience is better than other sports.

besides the fact that nobody else liked it and i thought it would be fun to be unique and ahead of the curve, the only other real reason is because of how smart you have to be to understand the game and that the typical american really just can't grasp the intricacies of the sport.

All of the reasons listed are valid. One perk I enjoy:
Fall Saturdays and Sundays, you can wake up at 6AM, watch the first EPL game, ride the EPL games until the 11:30 NCAA kickoffs (or noon NFL games on Sunday), and fall asleep watching either the late NFL game, west coast NCAA or Match of the Day.

Unless you're a female you're not helping the Soccer Board's reputation on here.

So much can change in a game in one moment. So much emotion tied into a game. Seeing it at an AO bar is one part watch party and one part rock concert.
