Purpose of 3rd place match?

Is there a reason for the 3rd place WC match other than another opportunity to watch the sport and additional ticket sales?

Kind of like winning a bronze medal in the Olympics (For team sports at least.) Almost entirely about bragging rights.

It´s an official match, therefore it´s important for one´s FIFA ranking.

Teams take it seriously but FIFA rankings is not high on the list of reasons why.

Do,you happen to know the money distribution? I believe every team gets 8 million euros for making the World Cup.

The 3rd place game is usually one of the best games of the tournament. Actually, come to think of it, it would be the perfect game for MSB folks to watch. There isn't really any defense, it lacks tactical preparation, it's end to end, and usually high scoring.
