I accompanied a relative to their Dr. appointment today. While there, I watched another patient motivating around the waiting room without a problem, then develop a pronounced limp and foot drag when they called him back for his exam .

I figure he was trying to score some prescription meds or has a personal injury claim. Not that it matters, but to keep the thread from derailing, this was a thirtyish white dude.

Piss tests usually catch the pill heads.

With the new e-scripting docs have to use now, it's pretty damn hard to get a bunch of stuff filled at multiple pharmacies.

When I was 14 I had an infected knee that landed me in the hospital for 8 days. When I was released the Dr. told me to stay off of it until I saw him. I entered the Dr's office on crutches and walked out carrying them. One guy said damn that Dr. is a miracle worker.

They submit your prescription electronically to the pharmacy. No paper copies for people to forge.

Not sure if they have to do it by law.....yet.

Controlled substances actually have to be submitted via a physical pad for some reason

If the patient volunteers to show they know more pharmacology than I do, I start to get suspicious...

It's pretty hard to fake it in the ER now with EMR and you see they have been here 4 x in the past month. We all use the state controlled substance Rx program. Like the earlier poster said, I'll let them go on for a few minutes then pull out a printed 6 page list of all the narcotics they've received in the last year and say nope.

Our hospital has backed us up with pamphlets saying we don't treat chronic pain in ER too, so I can always blame it on the hospital why I can't give them their crack

Most of the time once you catch them in the act of drug phishing, they leave AMA

I know a couple of people that have legitimate physical problems but because they've Doctor shopped and done other things such as that, they'll always raise suspension either at a Doctor or a Pharmacy.

I've had the same Doctor for 12 years and have used the same Pharmacy. They're both great.
