I'm new to this board so take it easy on me. Saturday, I'm planning on going with my roommate to Crystal Beach and attempting to catch some blue crabs. My plan is to get two 1" x 1" stakes and run some nylon line between them. Then I plan to tie drop lines on the line between the stakes. At the bottom of the drop lines I will tie chicken necks or something of the sort. Does anyone have any critiques to this method? Should I add sinkers to the bottom of the drop lines? Has anyone crabbed near Crystal Beach before?

I don't use drop lines, but basically the same method. I just tie the chicken straight to the main line. Then you can walk along with a net and just lift it high enough to get the net under the line and chicken as you go. No need for sinkers for sure. Your method will definitely work.
I haven't fished Crystal Beach, but my dad lived in baytown and I fished the bay for crabs with him a few times. No reason you shouldn't catch some.

just have a decent net with some decent length on the handle so you don't spook the crabs as you get close.

take your turkey necks, string, etc to rollover pass in bolivar. you may have to weight your line it just depends on how strong the current is.

Also, how pissed is my gf gonna be when she sees this place? I'm just looking forward to catching some crabs, but she's probably expecting slightly less than Gulf Shores . I went to Freeport last year and there was a ton of seaweed washed up on the beach and the sand had a pretty slimy feel to it. If it's like that I'm done for.

Where are you staying? the beach is probably on par with Galveston but its a lot bigger. Some of the beach houses that were rebuilt after the hurricane are really nice, but its no gulf shores/orange beach

I'm living in Port Arthur this summer so we're just gonna make a day trip out of it. Unfortunately, there will be no nice beach house to distract her.

The seaweed has been pretty bad again this year. They do rake it up with tractors but this is no Gulf Shores. The water is NOT clear. The outflow from the rivers keeps the water pretty dirty.

The beach web cams are showing a ton of seaweed. Beach cam

Now, this is not by the main beach where everyone goes but you get the idea.

Mom's been having good luck on the backside of the peninsula from her RV park. Not as pretty but I've never crabbed on a beach with any success either.

Not even on par with the beaches in the Landmass either.

Seaweed was indeed pretty bad. We ended up catching about a dozen crabs though in about 3 hours. I had a good time and will probably go back soon.
