and have suggestions of things to do there during a 2 week stay?

Kilimanjaro, Serengeti NP, and the Indian Ocean coast are 3 of the most obvious things to go to.

Other lesser known sweet places to see, things to do, etc?

TIA

I hear the elephant/rhino hunting is amazing down there. Just make sure you ask the locals, not any official/resort people.

I've been, summitted Kili and did the safari deal. I recommend taking an extra day on the summit attempt and one less day on safari, believe me you'll get tired of seeing another damn zebra by then.

You do need to be a decent physical shape, and doing lots of slow stair-climbing wouldn't hurt. But the biggest thing will be how well you adapt to altitude, which is why I suggest taking an extra day. It'll cost extra and is well worth it.

Don't believe the summit rates claimed by the tour companies, they'll all say 95% or higher which is total BS. On the typical climbs it's more like 50% but goes up quite a bit if you grab that extra day (or even two).

ETA: The claim of 95% or more really refers more to how many people reach the crater rim. That's quite an accomplishment but is not the true summit and plenty of people drop out here instead of making the final push.

I've been a couple of times, safaris are pretty cool, you're going in the their winter so its going to be cool/cold at nights
Check out the island of Zanzibar, its cheap to go over there

Besides the things you mentioned, Ngorogoro crater is an excellent safari experience and I would highly recommend it.

But nothing compares to the Serengeti. Make sure you spend a couple of days camping out in it.

ETA how could I forget Zanzibar? Definitely worth going to. If you go to Zanzibar, do a spice tour and go to their street market by the water. Tons of fresh seafood and the atmosphere is very nice.

Tanzania is just barely south of the equator, they don't really have summers or winters. It's either rainy or dry season.

but it will still be cold at night. I've been on a real safari - great country. If you're a hunter then you need to pull off a hunt. Dar is a shithole, so don't spend anytime there.

I'm asking for some newlywed friends of mine. They're going there for their honeymoon by year's end sometime. I think Kilimanjaro is definitely on their list and they have the acclimation advantage of having lived in Breck at 9600' for the past 10 or so years and are avid hikers around Colorado's mountains. Kilimanjaro is obviously higher than any of CO's 14ers, but it would be much easier for them than most people that don't have the advantage of already living at elevation. I would love to take a shot at summiting one of the 7 summits.

I've heard about that crater from someone else and supposedly it has some of the best wildlife viewing around.

I am curious to know this as well. I did my first fourteener last weekend and didn't think I would make it. Need to start doing more cardio apparently

Bierstadt. Closest to Denver and from what I hear the easiest. It was still tough for me and I'm in pretty good shape
