Sorry, but I have to ask - Is there an official language of the WC?

Ok, I know you guys are just thrilled with all the novice questions popping up on here, but I have to ask this and I will not start any other threads on here.
Is there an official language for the WC?
For example, if a team from a French speaking country is playing a team from an Arabic speaking country and the official(s) are from a Portuguese speaking country, how or in what language do they communicate?
I know a lot of players play in different countries and a decent amount can probably speak more than 1 language. But is one language designated as the official language of a match?
Anyways, sorry if this has already been addressed elsewhere. Just curious how they do this.
TIA.

English is usually the official language. They make the announcements in the stadium in English. I think they just find a way.
Plus the French players probably speak Arabic.

It's English, which is the most widely spoken language on Earth. You wouldn't know that reading the Off Topic Lounge though.
Look at the patches on their uniforms. English.

Appreciate it.
Didn't seem like anyone had problems communicating in what I've seen so far, just been curious about how that works.

It was supposedly a big deal that the ref in the first game didn't speak english, according to some of the players after the match.

I would assume the common tongue is English unless the ref and players collectively speak one language, which will probably never happen.

No, Mandarin Chinese is followed by Spanish. English is 3rd but English is the international language for business right now.

Incorrect. English is 2nd unless you just mean native speakers.

Maybe as a native language, but a good portion of the world at least understands English.

English is spoken by more nations than any other language.
Mandarin is spoken pretty much exclusively in China.
The number that follows is the total number of countries that use that language (from Weber, 1997):
English (115)
French (35)
Arabic (24)
Spanish (20)
Russian (16)
German (9)
Mandarin (5)
Portuguese (5)
