Wanting to do a little bit of fishing, but not really familiar with saltwater fishing. Can someone give me some pointers on when and what to fish for? I have a backwater bay on one side of the house, and the ocean on the other side...

If the pier is still there,go buy some basic jigs and watch others.

If not, watch a youtube on how to catch sand fleas. Fish those on a c-rig or dropshot just before or just after the first sand bar depending on depth.

Used to be a nude beach down there. Met Dusty Rhodes at the Holiday Inn. Use live shrimp

For the beach just use silver spoons. For the sound use gold spoons, mirrodines, and gulp if you're desperate. Don't use popping corks in the surf, and if the sound is clear don't use them there either. If dirty I guess it is ok. Make sure to use a mono or flouro leader if you have braid.

Get/Make a little sieve. Comb the sand (right where the water comes up) for sand fleas. You'll find a few softshell fleas if you're lucky. Those are money for pompano in the surf.

And pompano are money on your dinner plate.

Sand fleas are money. I've always caught them in the lip, where the water breaks. And they are usually in greater numbers where its mostly sand. (instead of areas with a lot of shells)

They sell "Gulf Rigs" Basically a tightline rig with a triangle weight at the bottom and multiple lines with circle hooks coming off of them. They have little floats on the secondary lines to keep everything off the bottom.

I need to find some of those for next trip. Oh, and pompano are easy to find if you snorkle.

Really? Going to have to give it a shot next time I am out there. There's not much better than Pompano.

Meh, they are inside the bar. As scared of sharks as I am, and I am, I am ok with the inside of the bar stuff.
