How do I become a Formula 1 fan?

As evidenced by the LeMans thread, it seems that there is a tiny bit of interest here, so I ask the all knowing MSB, how do I get into F1?
I have a piqued interest in the sport. I watched some of the LeMans, which was quite interested, though I didn't really fully understand what was going on?
Is there a good starting place for getting into this sport?

I see Formula 1 on NBC Sports Network quite often...

Practice, Qualifying, and Races are all shown on NBCSN. I find F1 qualifying very entertaining (knockout format). The last race (GP of Canada) was probably the most entertaining race of the year in any series.

1. Go to your local sports car dealers and test drive any and all.
2. Google F1 images and notice the difference in women fans.
3. Read any old articles on racers of old. Really cool stuff.
4. Watch BBC Top Gear.

From what I understand, F1 is the class of the racing world, so I think I can be an F1 fan and still have my own self-respect.
F1 ain't NASCAR, bruh

It's easy, but keep in mind, sometimes you might have to watch a race at 7am unless you have DVR.
Understand that F1 cars are the most advanced four wheel race cars in the world. It is more like a jet that a car. Indycar is no substitute for F1. Those cars would fall apart on a F1 track. The difference is Indycars are built for straight ahead speed. F1 cars are built for tracks, but can still reach over 200 mph on the straightaways.
Watch: Secret Life of F1
Don't forget if you ever want to go to a race, it's like $600/ person. A $3Billion sport ain't gonna be cheap to see.
Unfortunately you missed my, and many others, favorite race of the season. The Monaco race in France is simply awesome.
To answer your question: simply pick a team. My current team is Red Bull/ Infinity with four time champ Sebastian Vettel. Unfortunately Red-Bull hasn't been able to delivery a top car to him this year since F1 moved to Turbo V6 engine with more advanced Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS).
However, It appears Honda will be coming back to the sport after a long absence and I am looking forward to that. I believe a Japanese team will be able to build a very, very strong car. Just need a good driver. Let me know if you need more info.
Here is my RB6 mantle piece. Sorry for bad pic quality
Trying to get it to display...May have to check link instead.

I've been a more-or-less McLaren fan since I read Peter Revson's autobio back in high school. Drifted away the last few years since I can't catch most of the races.

Well you are in for a treat next year if it goes the way I think it is.
I believe McLaren will pair with Honda Engine and that is going to produce a spectacular car. I think Honda is going to come out in a big way. I'd prefer they stay on Pirellis for now and I like the KERS and DRS. However, I wish they would raise the fuel flow limits back to a level that allow above 14K revs.

Man, I remember the first turbo-cars. Yellow Renaults.
Four-cylinder BMW's making over 1,000 horsepower for qualifying....
Hunt, Andretti, Stewart, Prost, Senna, Berger, Boutsen, etc. etc.
