Cook plenty of beans....red, white, black, lentil soup, etc. and portion and freeze. A full freezer stays cold longer than an empty one, and beans are cheap....if the whole thing goes south in a prolonged power outage, you can toss em without crying too much. Or, you can feed the neighborhood with your defrosted beans. Or you can take some with you to feed your hosts should you evacuate. The beans can sub as ice blocks in your cooler.

I usually fill up all my oversized Tupperware w water around July 1, trying to make sure the chest freezer is packed tight. This doubles as a backup drinking water supply. Put food at bottom and water containers on top, so defrosting leakage doesn't get into your water.

A French press, Aeropress, etc plus some UHT milk in tetrapaks are vital at my house. Somehow AM coffee makes life a little more bearable if you are in cleanup phase without power.
