Maybe there's still hope for Nicolas Cage. This was pretty damn good, IMO. Cage's performance was pretty strong. Anyone else seen it? Thoughts? LINK

Just watched it and was wondering if anyone else had made a thread yet. Pretty damn strong movie. Cage played one of his best parts since Lord or War IMO and the boy was pretty good too.

A gripping mix of friendship, violence and redemption erupts in the contemporary South in this adaptation of Larry Brown's novel, celebrated at once for its grit and its deeply moving core. Directed by David Gordon Green, JOE film brings Academy Award (R) winner Nicolas Cage back to his indie roots in the title role as the hard-living, hot-tempered, ex-con Joe Ransom, who is just trying to dodge his instincts for trouble - until he meets a hard-luck kid, (MUD's Tye Sheridan) who awakens in him a fierce and tender-hearted protector. I think he can be quite good in certain roles.

His problem is that he is terrible with money so he has to constantly make Pay Check films to cover his strange fiscal hiccups.

Just finished watching this movie.

Wow.

One of, if not the best, Nicholas Cage movies I've ever seen. And one of the best movies I've seen in a while. It takes a lot for me to experience emotion during a movie, and I felt every emotion possible. If you haven't seen it, watch it.

ETA: damn. If you've seen the movie, go look up the wiki page for it. It has something about the father in the movie that's super eerie.

I will read. Best movie of 2014 so far, IMO.

Yep. He can be excellent in some roles and downright laughable in others. He's got such a "range"

Still hope? Nic Cage is on his own planet far above us mortals.

I watched it last night, thought it was just an ok movie. All the talk about Cage's performance, the best part of the movie was Ty Sheridan. He is one hell of an actor.

Nic cage drives me crazy for some reason he's my least favorite actor, however adaptation and the family man are a couple of my favorite movies

Just watched. Damned this was phenomenal. This kid is perfect for coming of age movies. Best in a long long time.

Cage is the best in works that don't recall him to accentuate excitement.

Loved this movie. Worth the $5.99...can identify with so much in this small town drama.
