BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
Two dogs are dead after a sheriff's deputy was forced to shoot and kill a dog that reportedly attacked a smaller dog Wednesday morning.

The incident started in a neighborhood located off Perkins Road near Siegen Lane around 9:15 a.m.

Officials said a deputy with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office was patrolling the neighborhood when he saw two large dogs running loose in the neighborhood. The deputy called EBR Animal Control and followed the animals while he was waiting for agents to arrive.

According to officials, the deputy heard a yelping noise and went to investigate. He said the dogs were attacking a small poodle that was chained in the backyard of a home.

"[The poodle] had a punctured lung, broken leg and its throat was totally mauled," said Hilton Cole, director of EBR Animal Control & Rescue. "It was humanly euthanized. Its injuries were too severe."

The deputy claims one dog lunged at him, so he fired his gun, killing the dog. Officials said the deputy was not injured. The second dog took off running and eventually made its way back to its owner.

Animal Control investigators have questioned the owner of the dogs. Reportedly, the owner could face charges.

I have no problem with this. They were attacking a smaller dog that was chained up.

That's clearly Meadow Park neighborhood. I'm perfectly fine with the officers protecting and serving in this case.

Have you ever been in Meadow Park? I doubt these were golden retrievers or border collies on the loose. That neighborhood is dangerous for delivery drivers and apparently poodles.

He may be a racist but I am very far from it. I can tell you that neighborhood is dangerous and full of thugs. White, Mexican, blacks, don't matter. Been that way since 80s.

Damn, you're quick to jump on that.
Never mentioned race, just noting that it was a trashy neighborhood.
Yes, I did stereotype that trashy people usually own Rotweilers, Pits, etc.

Well it's frustrating b/c I grew up not far away and I routinely run/bike through all those areas on my off days.
I have been run-up on by an aggressive dog right across Perkins from there on Jollisaint. It's scary as frick that dogs like that are on the loose. And like I said, it's simple statistics that these ain't fricking weenie dogs chasing us, while their owners sit under the carport smoking weed at 1pm on a Tuesday.
